Richard vs Jake in The Iron Heart

Lauded for its refreshing, high-octane action that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, The Iron Heart continues to enjoy a strong following. As agents Apollo (Richard Gutierrez) and Eros (Jake Cuenca) join forces in their big missions, let us look back on their biggest, baddest fight scenes in the series via this edition of Kapamilya Update.

Richard and Jake’s characters work as secret agents for two of the country’s elite investigation units, and that means to-the-death battles as they work on their missions, though they started as rivals.

Any place could turn into a war zone whenever Apollo and Eros have an encounter. Their very first scuffle happened in a port area as they fought over smuggled goods to impress their bosses in Tatsulok. What started as a badass brawl that involved sophisticated martial arts skills and stunts ended with a cutthroat exchange, with them spitting threats at each other.

The duo is well-equipped with martial arts bravado, which we witnessed in the succeeding scene. In a suspenseful clash that transpired inside a laboratory, Eros sensed that the mole was hiding in there. “Face me like a man,” he said. Apollo, with his identity concealed, answered the challenge, which sparked off a well-choreographed gun match. Eros was trapped under a tall steel rack that Apollo toppled over using sheer force.

They were also lauded for their mesmerizing, modern tour-de-force set in a warehouse. Setting the tone was Apollo’s sarcasm when he addressed Eros as ‘Sir.’ The latter squeezed his shoulder to see if he would flinch because that means he is the spy that he shot on the shoulder. But, Apollo’s skin is indestructible, and so is his pain threshold.

They forced each other to confess their identities as agents, resulting in a roller coaster fight with tangible brutality. It started off with an exciting shootout until Apollo ran out of bullets. With no weapon other than his sheer strength, he attacked Eros, who managed to regain his stance, building up an immensely satisfying violence.

It would be a crime not to include their ‘fight club’ scene in this video montage. In there, they agreed to engage in a gritty fisticuff set up by their bosses Orcus (Christian Vasquez) and Selene (Dimples Romana) in a secret place with a cheering audience. Both daredevils put on a show, displaying hand-to-hand combat skills and muscular intensity so engaging we couldn't choose just one fighter.

The Iron Heart has kept its promise to push action to new heights even if it may be a Herculean task that sometimes comes with genuine pain. As for us viewers, we’re ready for more.
