“It’s like a blockbuster movie that you’re going to see on TV.”
Are you feeling the hype yet? There are only two more nights to go before every Kapamilya is introduced to the latest primetime series that is bound to dominate the ratings. We can offer you plenty of reasons on why this should be your new favorite series, but instead, the people behind The General’s Daughter have a message of their own for you!
Before its television premier this Monday, January 21, a cinema screening was held which showed a concise version of the first week. It was attended by the cast, crew, members of the media, as well as close family and friends. During the red carpet, we saw Art Atayde, Sylvia Sanchez, Ria Atayde supporting Arjo Atayde. There were also young stars like McCoy de Leon, Kisses Delavin and love team Ronnie Alonte and Loisa Andalio. JC De Vera, Paulo Avelino, Albert Martinez and Tirso Cruz III were also present. And of course, Eula Valdez, Maricel Soriano and Angel Locsin.
Angel revealed that she needed an additional boost in portraying the lead of The General’s Daughter. She always gives 100% in every project she does, but this one in particular had a lot of big scenes that involved action and drama which is why she wanted to put in the extra effort.
“Kaabang-abang ‘tong teleserye na ‘to,” Sylvia promised. “Superb acting by everyone,” Arturo Atayde agreed. He is confident that viewers would enjoy this new series. He is particularly proud of Arjo, “again, he’s proven his talent.”
Meanwhile, Kisses was all praises for leading lady Angel. She admitted that after the screening, she instantly became a fan. “Parang mapapasabi ka na lang, ‘wow, she really is Angel Locsin,” the young actress expressed her astonishment. More importantly, Kisses is excited to see a woman be the hero this time. She feels that this would be refreshing for Kapamilyas.
In an attempt to make the portrayal of the armed forces as real as possible, ABS-CBN teamed up with the Armed Forces of the Phillippines (AFP) for the production of the series and it seems the partnership payed off. Lt. Lady Chatterly Sumbeling is thankful for how the armed forces was showcased. She also feels Angel truly deserved the role. Major General Bienvenido Datuin Jr. seconded her reaction. He feels that this series will help bring the AFP closer to the people, especially with how well the actors performed.
“Hopefully ma-sustain namin ‘yung kagaano ka-suspenseful, ka-dramatic, kalaki ‘yung mga eksena,” director Emmanuel Palo said after the screening. The General’s Daughter was almost a year in the making. According to Palo, pre-production started in March before taping began in June. This does not even include the writing stage.
Their whole team worked hard to overcome the challenges that came their way. Palo admitted that it was overwhelming to take on this project because of the big names included in the cast, “Kasi ang lalaki nilang artista at ang huhusay nila.” Shooting the action sequences were also tough. People would only see a few minutes of it on air, but it would take them a whole day to complete. And then there was the physical preparations they had to do to portray the military life. From familiarizing the protocols to the proper way of holding a gun, they wanted to be as true as possible.
Hearing all of this is surely getting us excited. But to see is to believe. Don’t miss the premier of The General’s Daughter after FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano!
