After beating out thousands of aspirants and proving themselves to the coaches and viewers, the four grand finalists of The Voice Teens are gearing up for the vocal battle of a lifetime to be named its first-ever grand champion in the country and in Asia this Saturday and Sunday (July 29 and 30).
Fourteen-year-old four-chair turner Jona Soquite, has been seasoned by singing contests. Driven by her dream to provide a new home for her family who lives by a river, she will use everything her singer father and coach Sarah have taught her in order to win.
The youngest artist in the competition, Jona has already shown she does not back down from any challenge by performing songs that showcase her versatility. The Tabing Ilog Sweetheart of Davao has also consistently received praises for her heartfelt singing.
Let us look back at her journey in the top-rating singing competition.
For the semi-finals, Jona brough the house down with her rendition of the iconic Whitney Houston song, “The Greatest Love of All.” She advanced to the grand finals after receiving a total score of 98.5% from her coach and the public, and became the contender of Team Sarah.
For the first live show, she gave an impressive performance of “Symphony,” a song by the band Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson. She was saved by Coach Sarah and she advanced to the semi-finals.
For the knockout round, the Tabing Ilog Sweetheart of Davao belted out the Destiny’s Child hit, “Stand Up for Love.” Coach Sarah chose her alongside Nisha Bedaña and Ivan Navares to advance to the live shows.
For the battle round, she sang an iconic song of Coach Sharon, “Sana’y Maghintay ang Walang Hanggan” with Chloe Redondo. Both girls impressed their coach but Coach Sarah chose Jona to advance to the next round.
For her blind audition, Jona owned the stage when she performed “Anak ng Pasig,” popularized by Geneva Cruz. All four judges turned for her but the young diva chose the Popstar Royalty to be her coach.
