Amelia (Janice De Belen) has always been cold and distant with her daughter Rhian (Angel Locsin). She is always unsatisfied with everything she does and is not concerned about her welfare at all. Rhian grew up taking all the blame for the death of Amelia and Tiyago’s (Tirso Cruz III) eldest son. She also grew up being scolded and embarrassed by Amelia all the time. Yet, Rhian never stops pleasing her in the desire to win her love and affection.
Amelia pretends to be asleep as she hears Rhian knocking on her door. Rhian went inside her mother’s room. She is reminded of her sad childhood as she gazes at the displayed photos of Tiyago, Amelia, and their eldest son.
Rhian begins talking to her mother by saying “I love you, Ma. Mahal mo rin ba ako?”. She begins to shed tears as she asks for Amelia’s forgiveness, saying she never wished her eldest brother’s death and never intended to hurt Amelia. “Kung maibabalik ko lang ang nakaraan, sana ako na lang yung namatay, Rhian tells her mother. Amelia continues pretending asleep as she felt Rhian’s embrace.
Meanwhile, Amelia catches Tiyago in deep thoughts. In a jealous tone, she begins accusing Tiyago of totally forgetting about their son’s memories and replacing him with Rhian instead. Tiyago defends himself by saying that the affection he is showing is simply part of the plan. He just needs to pretend loving Rhian in order to receive her full loyalty. However, Amelia thinks and feels otherwise. She still feels being in a competition with Corazon (Eula Valdez) everytime she looks at her daughter, Rhian. Tiyago gets furious as he asks Amelia to stop such thoughts. He says that he is just preparing Rhian for her biggest mission – killing her own father, Marcial (Albert Martinez).
