He’s been in the local entertainment scene for almost two decades, and in those years, Zanjoe Marudo is able to showcase versatility as an actor through his remarkable stints in Kapamilya teleseryes. And before he astounds us anew with his portrayal in the much-awaited series The Broken Marriage Vow, let’s look back on his awe-inspiring journey to becoming a sought-after Kapamilya heartthrob in this PUSH Evolution feature.
Just like some of the Kapamilya stars we admire, his ticket to showbiz was his participation in Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 1, wherein he emerged as the 4th Big Placer. He may have fallen short in his bid to becoming the Big Winner, but he has managed to make it big in the industry not just because of his handsome looks, but of his versatility as an actor as well.
The bankable heartthrob was able to exhibit his comic facet through his stints in the 2006 sitcom Aalog-alog, then in the comedy programs Parekoy and Banana Split. He scored his first-ever regular teleserye gig via the kiddie fantaserye Super Inggo as he portrayed the role of Super Islaw, which was followed by his stint in Kokey, the TV adaptation of the 1997 film of the same title in 2007.
Zanjoe then became one of Anne Curtis’ leading men in Dyosa (2008), as well as of KC Concepcion in the Filipino remake of the Korean drama Lovers In Paris in 2009. He started to take on father roles in 2013, when he played the role of Guido in the family drama Annaliza, and was succeeded by Dream Dad (2015), Tubig at Langis (2016), and My Dear Heart (2017), which enabled him to showcase his dramatic talent.
His mind-blowing portrayal of a schizophrenic father in the “Anino” episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya in 2016 was recognized by the International Emmy Awards as he got nominated in the “Best Performance by An Actor” category in 2017.
The 29-year-old actor was then paired with Angelica Panganiban in the daytime series Playhouse in 2017 and in the 2020 primetime drama Walang Hanggang Paalam, wherein he astonished us with his portrayal of one of the kontrabidas named Anton.
And prior to teaming up with Jodi Sta. Maria in The Broken Marriage Vow, the Filipino adaptation of the hit British series Doctor Foster, he already had the chance to work with her in the iWant Originals series My Single Lady in 2020.
Are you excited as us to see Zanjoe’s sure-fire performance as the manipulative charmer David Ilustre? Well, you better not miss an episode of The Broken Marriage Vow once it starts airing on January 24 in Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z Channel 11.
