Along with the month-long celebration of It’s Showtime’s 10th anniversary, our well-loved singing competition Tawag ng Tanghalan held a very special edition where celebrities showcased their singing prowess. Now that the Huling Tapatan is at hand, the celebrity finalists tell us how they feel about the upcoming event and how they are preparing for it.
Even though they are all experienced performers, the TNT celebrity contenders admit that they still feel pressured or scared with the thought of competing on national television. Nevertheless, they all tell us that it is a friendly competition and regardless if they win or lose, they all consider each other as champions already. Still, since it is still a competition, they revealed their holistic preparations before they face each other on the TNT stage.
While Pinoy Dream Academy alumna Cristina “Cris” Pastor said that the only thing she needs to prepare for the grand finals is having lots and lots of sleep, former child actor Brenan Espartinez says, “The stage is a sacred place for me.” He explains that it is where performers like him showcase their talent. Thus, the technical perfection of his performance is one particular thing that he meticulously works on.
As a vocal coach, Thor Dulay says that physical conditioning is important before the TNT Celebrity Edition: Huling Tapatan. Knowing that all of them are tough competitors, he mentioned that song choice will play a great factor in the results of the grand finals. Meanwhile, Gian Magdangal said that he mostly focuses on his storytelling or song interpretation. He also pointed out that his greatest foe in the competition is himself, and all his fellow finalists agreed, including Apple Chiu, who revealed that she currently vocalizes each day to practice for the finals.
On the other hand, sexy actress Sheree Bautista revealed to us how she’s been wanting to join Tawag ng Tanghalan for the longest time. “Matagal ko na pong pinaghandaan ‘to,” says Sheree, who told us that she really took voice lessons even before she joined the contest. Unbeknown to us, singing is her first love.
Other celebrity finalists, such as Pilipinas Got Talent Season 1 Finalist Markki Stroem, former Rivermaya vocalist Jason Fernandez, singer and former child actor Rhap Salazar and The Voice Kids Season 3 third placer Justin Alva, focus a lot on mental conditioning aside from practicing a lot. The Voice of the Philippines alumnus RJ Dela Fuente, The Voice Season 2 Third Runner-Up Leah Patricio, Miss Q & A Season 1 First Runner-Up Matmat Centino, singer-actress Roxanne Barcelo and MOR DJ’s Ana Ramsey and DJ Onse, tell us that they work on having a good and positive mindset while doubling their rehearsals too.
Aside from telling us how they are preparing themselves mentally, physically and emotionally, the TNT celebrity finalists spoke about who or what threatens them the most in the competition.
