As It’s Showtime continues to celebrate its 10th anniversary dubbed “Sampu-Sample”, the noontime show’s popular singing tilt Tawag ng Tanghalan mounted its first Celebrity Champions contest.
Last week, Thor Dulay, Justin Alva, Roxanne Barcelo, Jimi Marquez, Ethel Booba and Ana Ramsey were named daily winners of the competition. This week, a fresh batch of celebrity contenders were introduced during a press conference last Saturday, October 12, that was streamed live on the It’s Showtime Online Universe.
They include Pilipinas Got Talent Season 1 finalist Markki Stroem, Sineskwela cast member Agatom Brenan Espartinez, the viral “Random Girl” singer Zendee Rose Tenerefe; concert producer Joed Serrano, The Voice Kids Season 1 champion Lyca Gairanod, Miss Q & A 2018 First Runner Up Matrica Mae “Matmat” Centino, former That's Entertainment star and host Marilyn Villamayor, singer-songwriter Paolo Santos, singer-comedian impersonator Gil Morales AKA Ate Gay, actor-recording artist DJ Durano, actor Jojo Abellana, sexy actress Ynez Veneracion, Star Circle Quest 2011 Grand Girl Kiddie Superstar and Kadenang Ginto actress Brenna Garcia, actress Hannah Villame, rocker-chef Rolando Laudico, The Voice of the Philippines Season 1 alumnus RJ Dela Fuente, and Goin’ Bulilit star Cha-Cha Cañete.
In the press conference, they refreshed our minds on their accomplishments and updated us on their current activities. Markki Stroem said that after Pilipinas Got Talent, he chose to focus on theater and radio. Lyca Gairanod, meanwhile, revealed that she is currently prioritizing her studies. Jojo Abellana, for his part, said that he is in the process of gradually making a showbiz comeback. Meanwhile, Miss Q & A Season 1 first runner-up Matmat Centino disclosed that joining singing contests is now her priority.
Others spoke about having second thoughts in joining the competition, since they are already involved in other fields, while others shared that their main purpose in joining the competition was to merely showcase their singing talent, regardless of winning. After their speeches, each one of them gave a “sample” of their wonderful vocals.
