‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ Journey: Anton Antenorcruz

Our contender from Luzon has loved singing ever since he was a kid. When he was young, Anton Antenorcruz joined the choir and singing competitions to pursue his passion. Unfortunately as he got older, the hectic schedule of being a flight attendant didn’t allow him to continue his love for music. Although he is thankful for his job as he gets to travel to different places in the world, he still longs for his chance to sing on stage. Now that he as a shot at the spotlight again, expect Anton to give it his all and hold nothing back. Let’s watch Anton and his journey to the finals as he pours out his heart onstage.

Anton started his run strong with a heart-warming cover of Side A’s “Forevermore.” From the first note to the last, he amazed the judges with his soothing and soulful voice. It was a treat to watch as he belted out note after note. It instantly made him a shoo-in to face off with defending champion Renato Llemit for the title. Renato found it difficult to hold on to his title when Paolo sang a perfect rendition of Gary Valenciano’s “Sana Maulit Muli.” With a score of 96.8%, Paolo defeated Renato and he became the new champion.

Daily winner Mari Mar Parayao from Pampanga tried her best to snatch the golden microphone away from Anton with Pilita Corrales’ timeless hit “Dahil Sa’yo.” It proved to be difficult as Anton was on his top form belting out another Gary Valenciano hit, “Hanggang sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan.” In the end, with another soulful performance, the defending champion garnered a standing ovation from the judges and proved he was too hard to take down.

On his third day, Anton remains to be unstoppable, clinching a victory against Angelica dela Cruz. The daily winner from Laguna tried her best to dethrone Anton and sang her heart out with Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The two-time defending champion matched her performance with “The Last Time” by Eric Benet. With another outstanding performance, Anton gets his third straight win.

The fourth day proved to be the another unstoppable win for Anton. He faced off against Lloyd Sarausos from Surigao del Sur. The daily winner sang a beautiful cover of Divo’s “Ngayon Nandito Ka.” Anton retained his title with his amazing performance of “The Prayer,” proving his vocal prowess.

Anton got into the semi-finals after defeating Rey Cinco on his fifth day. Rey tried his best to beat Anton with his version of “Moon River,” popularized by Frank Sinatra. However, Anton was unstoppable when he sang Regine Velasquez’s hit song “Araw Gabi.”

Belting out a powerful rendition of Pilita Corales’ “Saan Ako Nagkamali,” daily winner Evelyn Cinco tried her best to stop Anton’s reign. Unfortunately, she was unsuccessful as Anton sang his own version of “Say That You Love Me” and retained his title as defending champion.

Daily winner Rennie Vargas finally ended Anton’s winning streak. Rennie surprised the audience with his reimagined cover of Siakol’s “Peksman.” Anton matched it and sang “Angels Brought Me Here” by Guy Sebastian, valiantly trying to retain his spot as champion. It proved to be difficult as Rennie’s vocal prowess impressed the judges more and Anton’s reign finally came to an end on his seventh day.
