“Talaga nga namang masusubukan ang aking pagka-versatile sa pagkanta,” Sue Ramirez readied herself. With her first ever major solo concert coming up, it is important for her to practice as much as she can. So, we tested her with the Musical Genre Challenge. First she will draw a random song, then put a new twist to the music by applying a random genre.
Starting off with combining Salbakuta’s iconic “Stupid” with the style of R&B. “Iniiwasan ko nga ‘to,” Sue admitted. She was worried about not being able to pull it off, but in the end, she gave a cool impromptu performance.
Next up was Yeng Constantino’s “Salamat.” Immediately, she remembered the high notes of the song. Instead of being nervous, however, the genre she drew seemed to make her more optimistic. She has always wanted to try musical theater but has never had the chance. Well, she proved that she have full of potential.
Finally, it is “Kathang Isip” by Ben and Ben in the style of rap. “Ang hirap naman! Ayaw ko na. I quit!” she jokingly exclaimed. Laughing to herself, “ini-imagine ko ‘yung Ben and Ben nagra-rap.” She was not confident about dropping lines, but this did not stop her from unleashing her inner rapper.
As expected, Sue Ramirez does have what it takes to be a versatile singer who can dip her feet in any genres. Watch this video to see her singing prowess on display! And if you enjoyed this challenge, then do not miss her first ever major solo concert “Sue Ramirez is Rock Chic” on July 19 at the Music Museum!
