Fans were recently caught by surprise when Cherry Pie Picache and Edu Manzano confirmed their relationship. But if there’s one person who wasn’t shocked at all, it would be Cherry Pie’s son, Nio Tria who had the sweetest words of support for his mom’s happiness.
Before he ventured into acting, Nio was focused on his sports, tennis Although he still gets to practice at times, his showbiz career moved up his priority list, with his newest project “Saying Goodbye” starring Seth Fedelin and Andrea Brillantes, together with Kobie Brown and Andi Abaya.
Nio had to trim the usual 4 to 5 times a week tennis practice down to 2-3 times to give way for lock-in taping. Coincidentally, he has no tournaments coming soon, thus more time for workshops and studying the script.
Nio’s showbiz career got the full blessing of his mom, veteran actress Cherry Pie Picache, who is now in a relationship with Marry Me, Marry You co-star Edu Manzano. Asked his reaction to this, Nio smiled, saying he wasn’t surprised at all. He was aware that Edu was courting his mom and he was even relieved that the two finally came out.
“Nu’ng nalaman ko na nabalita na, ‘Okay, good nabalita na.’ Sana okay ‘yung reaction ng mga tao, ng mga Kapamilya,” expressed Nio in an interview with Kapamilya Chat.
The big question, though, is if he approves of the relationship. The Squad Plus member answered, “Oo, approved! Siyempre, sinu-support ko ‘yung mom ko. Matanda na siya, alam na niya ‘yung ginagawa niya. Alam niya na ‘yun.”
The mother and son seem to have a close, sweet relationship. Proof is Nio’s statement that nothing will change even if a new man comes into his mother’s life. “Mama’s boy ako pero siyempre she also deserves ‘yung happiness rin. ‘Yung pagkakaroon ng relationship with someone else doesn’t remove the fact that she’s still my mom. Woman pa rin siya. She deserves love. I just want my mom to be happy, kaya support ako sa kanya, support ako sa kanila.”
Near the end of the interview, Nio was also asked how being the son of an award-winning actress affects his career as a newcomer. Like most celebrity kids, he wishes to step out of his mother’s shadow. “As her son, gusto kong makilala ako na hindi lang ‘Ay kaya siya napasok kasi anak siya ni Cherry Pie.’ Gusto ko sabihin nila, ‘Marunong din siya. May potential din siya as an actor kaya siya napasok sa industry.’” Nio added that he feels blessed to receive guidance and tips from his mom.
