Can you believe how far DonBelle has come?
Following the success of their wildly hit teen series He’s Into Her, Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano are teaming-up anew for their first lead movie role via “Love is Color Blind.” And we can’t help but feel proud especially when they relate how much they’ve changed as artists now tackling more complex characters.
While their closeness in He’s Into Her was a big help in pulling off their new assignment, they still had their fair share of challenges. DonBelle is more intense in the film – completely different, full-grown artists. Besides, their onscreen personas as Ino and Cara required deeper portrayal, hence greater dedication on their part.
“It’s different, iba kasi ‘yung mga characters namin dito. Sa ‘Hes Into Her’ kasi, hindi pa sila magkakilala sa start. Dito, sobrang close, best friends sila. We had a different take on it but of course nag-help ‘yung past projects namin,” shared Donny.
He added, “Grabe po ‘yung naging process namin. Hindi lang siya one-day thing na mage-gets mo na ‘yung character mo. Before the set, may mga workshops, script-readings. Pero, iba talaga sa set, doon mo talaga mararamdaman ‘yung character mo.”
Since they’re more comfortable, it was easier to discuss how they’d play a scene. They would exchange ideas and comment on each other’s portrayal. Donny said, “The way we work is different now. Very supportive kami sa isa’t isa like ‘Kailangan mong gawin ‘to. Part ba ni Ino or Cara ‘to? Will you say it this way?’ ‘Yung ganun, ang daming nangyayari before a scene. We really make sure that both of us are in sync.”
They even called each other Ino and Cara on the set to get the feel of their characters. Belle added they had to make sure they’re also aligned with the creatives and their co-stars. The team had clear dynamics on set, so it was easier to correct mistakes and keep everyone on the same page.
The movie’s trailer hints at Donny’s character’s vision deficiency as well as his love for the arts, so a part of his preparation was studying the life of a visual artist.
Donny and Belle wanted to keep the mystery in their newest Star Cinema project, thus all they could say about “Love is Color Blind” is it tells the story of two best friends en route to discovering love. The Gen-Z idols share the same opinion that love is indeed color blind. She stressed, “With or without color, love exists.” Meanwhile, he pulled out some ‘hugot’: “Love in itself is the color.”
The phenomenal love team is grateful for the warm reception of their film’s trailer. For Donny, just the anticipation is already touching. They added that they feel blessed to be a blessing to others by giving entertainment and inspiration in these trying times. He said, “It’s the pandemic but the fact that we’re able to tell stories… and these stories are not just ordinary stories but stories that give hope and ray of light. We’re just very grateful to be given these opportunities.”
