It’s official: award-winning actresses Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly de Leon are joining forces for the first time in a dark comedy by Star Cinema!   

  

Titled “A Very Good Girl”, the film is among the movies unveiled at the “New Movie Alert: Kathryn” announcement on Monday, Mar. 27. “A Very Good Girl” will be based on a screenplay by Dominique Mancol, with creative direction by Carmi Raymundo, and will be directed by Petersen Vargas, whom Kathryn requested herself.

 
 

“I personally picked him because I see so much potential in him,” Kathryn said about the director. “I've seen some of his projects and I just feel like noong sinabi ko na siya ‘yung napili ko na final, parang feeling ko, it felt right.”   

  

“And I feel like he is the perfect director to guide me in this movie. I'm really excited na makatrabaho siya for the first time,” she gushed.  

 
 

Direk Petersen described “A Very Good Girl” as a dark comedy but “with a lot of sass and class.” He teased, “We want to serve lang this fantasy of representing [a] frustrated and powerless generation through Kathryn's character, so maraming aabangan.”  

  

While writing the story, Gen Z writer Dominique revealed that she has already envisioned Kathryn to play the main character of the film.  

  

“She's so young [and] she's so talented. I feel like she can pull off the eat-the-rich concept,” she said.  

  

As for the plot, Dominique shared: “I want to tell it from the perspective of the young so I can put in a lot of my sass, a lot of my humor.” 

 
 

Even with her hectic schedule, it didn’t take much convincing for Dolly to say “yes” to Star Cinema when the story was pitched to her. Carmi said they feel very honored and grateful that the veteran actress gave them time and listened to the concept and story. It also helped that Dolly heard the magic word, which is none other than “Kathryn,” to further convince her. 

   

“Noong pini-pitch namin sa kanya, she asked, ‘Sino 'yung makakasama doon sa pelikula?’ When we said Kathryn Bernardo, immediately nag-light up si Ms. Dolly,” Carmi recalled.   

  

“Kasi sabi niya, ‘I don’t know if she remembers but we worked together when she was very little. Noon pa lang, nakitaan ko na she's very professional, she's very humble,’” Carmi relayed. “That's why [Dolly’s] very excited also to work with [Kathryn] again.”  

  

Kathryn also couldn’t be more excited to work with the award-winning actress.  

  

“What an honor. For sure marami akong matututunan sa kanya. I can't wait to meet her again. Now, I'm looking forward na mas makatrabaho siya ng mas matagal at mas makilala siya,” Kathryn gushed. “What a great honor na gumawa at nabigyan niya ako ng oras.”  

  

“A Very Good Girl” is slated for release in cinemas this 2023!
