Jodi Sta. Maria’s movie characters haven’t always had the best of luck when it comes to finding love. Chalk it up to ill fate or complicated love triangles, but Jodi’s romantic storylines are definitely similar in that her personas face challenges in getting to their happy endings.
Case in point: when Jodi played Chinggay, a 30-something woman pressured to find a life partner — we felt her frustration build up all the more when she got caught in the middle of two eligible bachelors.
While wrestling with her own high standards in love, Chinggay has to choose between his ex-boyfriend, Frank ((Richard Yap), with whom she clearly still has chemistry, or a new flame, Ryan (Ian Veneracion), who’s still moving on from a failed romance.
After seeing Jodi capture viewers’ hearts as Chinggay, we’re excited to see how high her standards will be as Tricia in the upcoming romantic-comedy "Labyu With An Accent" alongside Coco Martin.
Even though Tricia, a woman who has been living in the United States for 20 years, accepts Gabo’s (Coco) “business proposal” of becoming his ultimate jowa for three days and two nights, we still don’t know the complete terms and conditions she has set for him.
We will soon find out as the film premieres on Dec. 25 as an official entry to the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Directed by Coco himself, the movie will mark Star Cinema’s grand back-to-back return to MMFF, along with the Cathy Garcia-Molina comedy movie “Partners In Crime” starring Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi.
