Coco Martin: ‘Gusto kong kunin lahat ng mahuhusay na artista sa Pilipinas’

After his actor-director role in the big screen for “Labyu with an Accent”, Coco Martin is back at it again with “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo”, and he only chose the best of the best in Philippine showbiz to work with.

“Ang nasa isip ko noong binubuo ko itong ‘Batang Quiapo’, gusto kong kunin lahat ng mahuhusay na artista sa Pilipinas. That’s it, gusto ko silang makatrabaho, gusto kong magsamasama kami dito,” he revealed during the Feb. 7, 2023 press conference for the show, as seen in “Star Bits” via Star Cinema’s YouTube channel on Feb. 21.

Coco’s fans have been talking about how they were moved to tears, anger, and all sorts of emotions while watching the teleserye. It’s all thanks not only to Coco’s direction, but also to the veteran actors he cast for the series.

These actors gave praise to Direk Coco. Charo Santos-Concio, who plays Coco Martin’s grandmother, cited that it was Coco who brought back the action genre in Philippine television.

Cherry Pie Picache, who plays his mom, also expressed her gratitude to the actor-director for giving importance to senior actors like her as she stated a wish to younger celebrities: “Sana may isa pang Coco Martin.”

Playing the antagonist in the series, Christopher de Leon also considers working with Coco an honor, giving emphasis to the fact that Coco called him personally to offer him the role. The critically-acclaimed De Leon has been part of numerous landmark films from the 1970s up to the present, such as “Ikaw Ay Akin”, “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos”, and “Wansapanataym” which may all be streamed for FREE for a limited time only on Star Cinema’s YouTube channel.
