If there is a list of must-watch Pinoy family dramas, 2017’s “Seven Sundays” would top it.

Helmed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, “Seven Sundays” looked into the story of the Bonifacio family, led by widowed patriarch Manuel, whose cancer diagnosis gave him only seven weeks to live and made him reevaluate his relationship to his children. 

This film featured several scenes that put tears in our eyes. The five we listed down below are the ones that very nearly killed us (and possibly, the rest of the country as well!)

1. When Manuel revealed that he was dying

After celebrating his birthday, Manuel (Ronaldo Valdez) gathered his four children Allan (Aga Muhlach), Bryan (Dingdong Dantes), Cha (Cristine Reyes), and Dex (Enrique Gil) to break the news of his condition.

Despite his children’s insistence that he get treated for his disease, he refused and asked them to spend his last seven weeks with them.

2. When a basketball game reopened old wounds between Allan and Bryan

Long-held grudges between siblings are an inevitability, but that doesn’t mean that your parents will find it easy to watch you and your brothers and sisters fight.

For Tatay Manuel, it was truly disappointing to see his children arguing over a basketball game instead of enjoying his birthday celebration.

However, there’s a silver lining: in the end, the siblings decided to set their differences aside to allow their father to enjoy his remaining days with them.

3. When a little argument blew up into a major “sumbatan” session

We sometimes think that we could solve issues with temporary solutions, but the thing is, it will only lead to chaos.

A little argument between Bryan and Dex blew up, and it led to the rest of the Bonifacio siblings to bring up past issues and old resentments that they have kept buried for the longest time. This scene reminded us how important it is to have an open relationship with our families - to stay honest and to stay compassionate and empathetic towards those who love us the most. 

4. When the Bonifacio siblings found it in their hearts to forgive each other

The secret to having a happy family is simple: forgiveness. After the argument that tore their family apart, Allan, Bryan, Cha, and Dex decided to patch things up.

Bryan even got the chance to (finally) add another member to the Bonifacio family by reuniting with his estranged son (whom he kept a secret from his family this entire time.)

5. When they had that big reunion towards the end!

Nobody is perfect, right? Pero in the end: #FamilyIsForever talaga!

The Bonifacio family was once again reunited after going through several ups and downs in the movie. During the “reunion,” the siblings also expressed gratitude to their father for everything he has sacrificed for them.
