Jairus Aquino shares gaming hobby, teases about new movie project

Didn’t we all miss Percy, the ‘laude’ of the ever-cheery Mabunga Family? Fans of Pamilya Ko and Jairus Aquino get a special treat from the actor as he talks about his upcoming projects, gaming sanctuary, and other quarantine activities in this episode of Kapamilya Chat.

The actor bid the ‘scruffy quarantine look’ goodbye and went back to the clean, baby-face image he’s known for. He is doing a new film with Zaijan Jaranilla and Maris Racal. Apart from the movie, Jairus also started to ride the digital wave by game streaming.

Jairus used to limit his gaming hours, scared that it may lead to addiction. But the quarantine happened and he had to fight the boredom. A cousin, who helped him create his Star Magic “Love from Home” photos, convinced him to try livestreaming. Coincidentally, he received another call from a gamer friend telling him the same thing. Jairus was finally convinced to build his own den. When fans learned about this, they gifted him a cool gaming chair to match the setup.

Jairus would cry foul over the assumptions that gaming is just a waste of time. For him, it widens the social circle and is the ultimate stress-reliever. Jairus revealed that he suffers from anxiety so gaming helps soothe the symptoms. “’Yung fulfilment niya sa akin is nare-relax ako, parang ‘yung mga kaibigan ko kasama ko lang at nakakausap ko, nagagawa ko na parang walang COVID,” he explained.

In the latter part of the interview, Jairus gives the viewers a quick tour of his gaming den. He would also talk about his takeaways from the pandemic and lock-in shooting.

Movie Project

Jairus isn’t a stranger to lock-in tapings anymore, for he recently filmed a new movie. Fans can watch out for more details about the project. For now, all Jairus can promise is we’re bound to be surprised by his different side. Even he was stunned by his transformation. “Ibang Jairus ang makikita n’yo dito. Kumbaga ‘yung mga ginawa ko dati parang level one lang ang kinailangan, this time ‘yung appearance kailangan magpalit, lahat talaga,” he teased.

The movie tackles coming-of-age issues and how to overcome them. It also touches lessons about family life. Jairus is joined by Zaijan Jaranilla, Inigo Pascual, Phi Palmos, Maris Racal and Joey Marquez. TikTok star Christian Antolin is also in the cast, thus we can expect some TikTok scenes in the movie.

Jairus would attest to the challenges brought about by the “new normal” taping protocols. It was difficult to interact at first since everybody was covered in facemasks and face shields. Particularly for Jairus, the setup triggered his anxiety. He was uneasy, scared to move around and put his safety at risk.

“Ang hirap! Ang dami mong iniisip sa isang shoot lang. Sobrang iniingatan mo ‘yung sarili mo kasi ayaw mong umuwi ng bahay na may sakit. Kung pwede lang every week magpa-swab test ka para lang kampante,” he added.

Thankfully, his PA (Personal Assistant) was there to help him manage the anxiety attacks.  His co-stars also kept him in good spirits. Strong friendships were formed on the set despite the social distancing, face masks and all. It became easier to have someone to turn to for conversation, advice, and companionship.

Returning to the “new normal” taught Jairus to always be informed and aware before diving into anything or arriving at a decision. You also have to keep yourself safe for the family. And more importantly, cherish each moment spent with them.

The pandemic, and other personal issues that came like a test of strength, revealed the people who are for keeps. And at the end of the day, there’s no better way to face these challenges but with a heartstrong attitude.

“Always remember kung sino ‘yung mga taong nagmamahal sa’yo. My reason every morning pag gumigising ako is I wanna see my family. I wanna be with them. These people, my fans at mga sumusuporta sa akin, gusto ko silang mapasaya,” said Jairus.

When asked if he is single at the moment, Jairus had this intriguing answer, “Kung hindi ikaw, huwag  na lang.” He clarified that he is single and he’d rather take a pause first  than rush into love.

Gaming Den

Riding the digital wave, Jairus has joined celebrities who ventured into live game streaming. In this episode of Kapamilya Chat, the actor showed the components that make up his cool gaming den.

The whole build was made by Jairus’ resourcefulness, starting off with the PC setup previously mounted inside his parents’ room. The Kapamilya actor explained that game streaming requires a good PC monitor for easier interaction with the live viewers.

Since he‘s skipping school this semester, the camera which he uses for academic requirements was turned into a webcam. But the problem is the camera can’t be plugged in while in use, thus the limited battery life. As mentioned earlier, his fans gifted him a gaming chair to complete the setup.

Sometimes, Jairus’ dad uses the PC for work that’s why it’s placed in the living area. He plans to purchase a new computer for his father so he can level up the game time and build his own sanctuary in his room.

“Ang hirap din dito sa baba kasi nga may taong dumadaan. From time to time, bubulungan ka tapos hindi mo naman naririnig kasi naka-headphones ka,” he said about the hassle that many newbie gamers can relate to.

Nonetheless, Jairus is not in a rush to build his dream gaming setup. He’s not comparing himself to top gamers, either. “Hintayin mo na lang na umangat ka nang kusa. Huwag mong pilitin,” he said.  Besides, the consequences brought about by the pandemic allowed us to reassess our ‘games.’ Simple things like family time and food on the table are now the real GG (good game) experience.

Prank Call

It’s always good to have someone to turn to for some laughter and good times. For actors like Jairus, friendships are built on the set of a teleserye or a movie project. Just look at how the Mabunga siblings’ brotherly love transcends beyond the screen.

We’ll get a glimpse of their closeness as Jairus tries to make a prank call to Kid Yambao. In a previous episode of Kapamilya Chat, Jairus was also pranked by another Pamilya Ko co-star Maris Racal. While he was able to sense Maris trying to pull his leg, a little payback time won’t hurt for the sake of fun.

The first challenge was perhaps to make the victim pick up the phone. “Kinakabahan ako pero mas kinakabahan ako na hindi siya sumagot. May ugali kasi talaga to, eh. Ganito ugali nito, eh, hindi marunong sumagot ng tawag. Tsamba ‘pag sumagot siya,” Jairus revealed.

Kid even rejected the call at one point. “Binabaan ako! Kita n’yo ‘yon?! Ang baho talaga ng ugali nitong tao na ‘to eh,” Jairus joked. That didn’t stop the prank caller from ringing his victim’s phone, but still to no avail. Jairus received a message from Kid claiming that he’s talking with somebody else while his brother said that he’s busy with gaming.

Jairus was on a hunt for more possible victims. He tried calling Vitto Marquez but still to no avail. Inigo Pascual was on a taping, either. “Wala akong friends ‘no? Nafe-feel ko na ‘yun eh,” Jairus quipped.

He went back to Kid. After a few more attempts and excuses, Kid finally answered the call. Jairus confronted Kid for allegedly backstabbing him, resulting in a hilarious banter.

“Sampalin kita diyan, eh! Nagpa-prank ka pa,” Kid retorted. He later on added, “Kilala mo naman ako. Hindi ako ganyan. Kung sisiraan kita, lahat talaga sasabihin ko sa’yo.” Of course, Jairus denied the prank at first.

Since he couldn’t hold the laughter, Jairus revised the script into the celeb tried-and-tested “pautang” prank. He tried to borrow Php10, 000 for his gaming rig.

The banter was so real and hilarious Jairus burst into laughter, so Kid, unfortunately, didn’t fall for the joke. The prank call might have gone wrong but Jairus and Kid’s conversation will send you good vibes and ‘bromance’ feels!
