From being a singer, songwriter and actor, talented performer Young JV has also added another feather on his cap for he is also now the head of his own record label, notsofamous. And that’s what he talked about during his recent virtual chat with DJ Jhai Ho in the ABS-CBN Entertainment online talk show Hotspot.
Establishing and running a record label in the midst of a pandemic is definitely not easy, yet he and his team are still able to go on with all their meetings and song recordings and editing, as well as with their releases and promotions via online. Besides, he has also asked a friend of him to stay at his abode-turned-recording studio to help him mix and master every song they produce.
Since being in the entertainment scene is not a walk in the park because of the challenges and setbacks, Young JV imparted that he also never forgets to give advices and pick-me-ups to their artists based on his own experiences in order to encourage them to stay and keep on fighting in the industry.
“Always kong sinasabi sa kanila that ‘be yourself’. Sa umpisa pa lang, kung gagawin mo ‘yong music na ‘to, ‘yong branding mo, gusto ko ‘yong ikaw. Ayoko mag-form ng isang music para sa’yo na para lang sisikat ka, gawin mo ito. ‘Yon ang policy ko for my label – to find kung sino sila and make it their own. Parang i-harness pa o i-polish pa natin lalo para makita ng mga Kapamilya natin how they are. Basically, who you are is what they get,” the 30-year-old artist related.
Then he continued, “Sinasabi ko sa kanila, always practice writing. The basics – writing, singing, look good, and be up-to-date sa mga social media. I’m sure sa kanila may mga impatient din. Alam ko ‘yong mga feeling na parang wala pang nangyayari. Kaya sabi ko, just stay focused and keep on writing. Good example kasi kapag sobrang lupit mo na, makikita ng tao ‘yan eventually and they will appreciate you. Kami na bahala sa promotions sa inyo, basta make sure na kapag sinalang namin kayo, you’ll be ready. ‘Yon ang importante. This goes out also to all the labels, this goes out to the entertainment industry here.”
Further discussing the significance of breaking into show business prepared, Young JV admitted that he actually is a product of not being fully equipped yet before coming out to ASAP to perform many years ago. Although a lot of Filipinos possess talents that are worthy to be witnessed by the world, he observed how much we lack in terms of training and equipping the artists with stuff that they would need along the way. And that’s something he wants to change and do with the artists in his own record label.
He also talked about his latest track “Cherry Moon”, which depicts the genuine and unconditional love of a girl who wants nothing but to live a simple life with him. It was written by his friend from Los Angeles, California, who also worked with Hollywood superstar Chris Brown, while the beat was created by someone from nostofamous.ph.
Young JV then went on to show some pairs from his shoe collection and share the stories behind each pair. Even though he has a wide array of rubber shoes, he confessed that he only uses those occasionally – either for fashion, basketball games, or workouts. However, his go-to pairs are sneakers and slip-ons that he combines with his black or white tops and bottoms.
