Maris Racal has been very busy with showbiz projects left and right, and she expressed her gratitude in this episode of Hotspot with DJ Jhai Ho for all the opportunities given her.
Maris said she actually did not expect them considering it was a difficult year for the country. The singer-actress sees these projects as blessings, yet she also expressed concern about the livelihood of the workers behind the cameras, as the entertainment scene dimmed the entire year due to the pandemic, and in the case of the Kapamilya network, the denial of its franchise. But she said she’s thankful that ABS-CBN continues to rise with its digital platform streaming films and programs seen by millions.
With the prevalence of online offerings nowadays, Maris is actually topbilling a Star Cinema digital movie, “Boyette: Not a Girl Yet” opposite Zaijian Jaranilla and Iñigo Pascual. It’s a coming-of-age film that revolves around the story of Boyette (Zaijian), a gay college student who pretends to be a straight just to get closer to his crush Charles (Iñigo). Meanwhile, Maris portrays the role of Nancy, the ‘kikay’ girl who is actually in love with Boyette. Maris said that if she’s going to compare her real self to the character, she said she’s different because Nancy is very extroverted and overconfident. She also shared that she thinks she was able to portray her character effectively because she embraced the role very well.
The film also stars Joey Marquez, Alma Moreno, and Jairus Aquino to name a few. Maris also shared that she has been very close to her fellow cast members. Maris had actually worked with Joey and Jairus previously on Pamilya Ko. Because of this, she playfully spilled the beans on her co-stars. First, she said that Jairus is really a ‘bully’ and you can get annoyed with him. Meanwhile, Maris shared that Iñigo usually stutters when saying Filipino words. But for Zaiijan, Maris divulged an interesting fact about the former child star who played Santino in May Bukas Pa. She said he still has this religious trait that we’ve always known him for since portraying the iconic character. According to Maris, Zaijian would always initiate and lead a prayer on the set.
After her chat with DJ Jhai Ho about the film, Maris then shared her breathtaking collection of digital prints, portraits, and artworks. These included an artsy portrait of Maris, and a Villa del Sol minimalist painting. Other works hanging on her gallery wall were a large painting done by artist Buddy Cabrera and a digital print of one of Amedeo Modigliano’s art pieces. Prominently seen is a black-and-white photo of Maris taken last November 2019 by photographer Ryan Agustin.
