Spotlight on Julia Barretto

Joining show business was something quite expected for someone like Julia Barretto. It was something that runs in her blood, so to speak. Julia Francesca or simply Juls already had an idea of the ins and outs of show business even long before she formally joined it when she was around 8 years old. She used to consider the movie sets as her playground since she has people who consider these areas as their workplace. She has two aunts Claudine and Gretchen who are among the industry’s most celebrated drama actresses. Then there’s her father, Dennis Padilla, who’s one of the most reliable comedians in the business. Even her mother, Marjorie Barretto, ventured into the business for some time. Her family background led for Julia to be pegged as the “young Claudine.” She was able to give life to it on her introductory project the 2007 soap “Walang Kapalit” which starred her aunt Claudine opposite Piolo Pascual. @juliabarretto #SpotlightonJuliaBarretto

Despite her excitement in being part of the business, Julia’s curiosity eventually fizzled out when she started schooling. “Ang dami ko ng naging friends nun and they were all just simply students and I went home one day sabi ko ‘Parang gusto kong maging student and a normal person. I don’t want to work, I just want to study,” she said. But then, after enjoying being a student, Julia eventually realized that she missed acting. And so she decided to try her luck in the business anew. But her desire wasn’t initially met with support, as her parents were very protective of her. She recalled that they’ve warned her about the industry’s “cruel” nature. Her mother even told her, “Once you enter that, there’s no going back out. That’s it.” @juliabarretto #SpotlightonJuliaBarretto

Since then, Julia had one goal in mind—that is to become a versatile actress—one who could slip from being a dramatic star to a convincing comedienne in one go. Her skills was somehow tested when Her first title project came a few months since her introductory stint. Julia breathed life to Anna Calugdan on the Wenn Deramas the fantasy soap “Kokey” in 2007. Although she was initially being groomed as a drama actress, Julia was successfully able to tap on her comedic side through the said soap. But how did she do it? “As a child if ‘yung environment mo is kasing age mo lang, hindi mo mapipigilan. You won’t be serious. You won’t act old, malalabas ang pagkabata mo kasi nilalabas ng mga co-workers mo ‘yun,” she explained. Julia added, “It wasn’t hard, I was being myself. I was being my age.” @juliabarretto #SpotlightonJuliaBarretto
