Naturally athletic and a die-hard basketball aficionado, it is no wonder that Gerald's favorite activity is playing ball with friends and puttibg up basketball clinics and involving himself in game benefits to help out. He brings this passion for the game as the Captain Ball of the Star Magic Basketball Team. He looks up to LeBron James and once considered to play professionally.
Last year Gerald tried something new in the 2015 ASTC Asian Triathlon Cup. He signed up to be a triathlete and do a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike and 10-km run with only a month to prepare. He finished the race though he recommends to have months of training.
In September 2009, Metro Manila took a beating from super typhoon, Ondoy that devatated lives and properties. Gerald with his friend Alo, braved the muddy flood and strong currents to check on neighbors. A neighbor, Dr. Divine Rosales-Murao was able to document Gerald's efforts. Gerald extended help not only to their own street but to other streets as well, organizing rescue teams to help people out of their homes, disregarding his own safety and well being. A year later Gerald was awarded the Star Humanitarian Award by Star Studio for his heroic efforts. A reluctant hero, Gerald humbly said that anyone who is in his place would have done the same thing. Fast track to 2015, Gerald's former manager Jun Reyes suffers a stroke leaving the right side of his body paralyzed. Upon hearing this, Gerald arranged to see Jun in the hospital and took it upon himself to settle bills and medical expenses. Still overwhelmed with Gerald's help, Jun reveals more about Gerald.
Gerald found out about the Cancer Warriors Foundation during a task inside the Big Brother House. He was humbled to have heard about the volunteers' passion in helping children and was inspired by the stories of cancer remisions from them. He vowed to see them again after PBB. Now, he has adopted CWF as an advocay and spends his birthdays with them every year.
For his character immerssion as Budoy, Gerald was introduced to another foundation taking care of the poorest of the poor, abandoned, neglected children with disabilities called Cottolengo Filipino. He saw the passion of Little Works of Divine Providence Congregation servicing their growing family.
