Sino Ang Maysala? Mea Culpa, down to its final week, has been a successful mystery-thriller TV drama which revolved around the story of six law graduates who encountered a tragic incident in Baguio as they celebrated the bar results.
Since the start of the series, it has already captured the attention of the viewers, commending how the show depicts diverse characters.
One of them is Gaylord Mamaril portrayed by Sandino Martin. Gaylord's character does not only deal with the consequences brought by the accident that has happened, but he also faces his personal issues, especially when it comes to his gender identity.
In an interview, Santino revealed that he suggested that his character can be not the usual vulgar or flamboyant gay. "First, they’re pushing me to play him as someone flamboyant, but I told them that it’s time to show queerness in a different light," he said.
Here are few of the moments Gaylord would forget himself and try his best to fulfill his dreams for his family.
1. He is open to what his parents want for him Gaylord’s mom prepares all the medicines Gaylord would be needing as he leaves the house to go with Juris. His dad also reminds him that what he wants for Gayl is that he gets married first before actually having his own family.
2. He listens to his parents’ advice Gayl’s dad asks how he is and if he’s okay. Gayl says he is but his dad refuses to believe. The truth is, Gayl is having problems with his work so his dad gave him some advice about it. He reminded his son of how they (Gayl’s parents) used to give genuine service to the people when they were still working in the police force. Gayl’s parents believes he can be of service to the Filipino people and can stick to what is right and just.

4. He does not want to disappoint his parents by coming out Bogs teases Gaylord about this girl named “Jane” who was, according to Bogs, Gaylord’s girl in law school. However, even if they joke about it, Bogs still asks Gaylord if he thinks of coming out to his parents and Gaylord just said it he has already forgotten about it.
5. He wishes to fulfill his promise to his parents Gaylord remembers the time when his parents sent him to law school in order to fulfill their dreams for him. He even told his parents that instead of sending him to law school, they should be preparing for their retirement. However, his parents insisted that they want him to focus on his dreams. Gayl in return promised he would give back to his parents as soon as he becomes successful.
6. He realizes being true to himself is for the best At first, when Gayl tried to come out and tell the truth about his gender identity to his parents, they did not believe him. But when Gayl looked serious and was already crying, his dad was not able to control his anger and so he hurt his son. His dad was so furious about it, but Gayle tried to explain that he did not want to disappoint them but the longer he keeps the truth as a secret, the more he hurts himself.
7. His rift with his father affects him Gayl’s dad is still not in good terms with him but his mom told him to just let his dad be. Gayl admits he sometimes feels he’s not doing his job right anymore. He questions his worth as a lawyer because he thinks he cannot even give justice to his friend’s death.
