While we’re living in the era when most people don’t believe in true and everlasting love anymore, there’s a one kind of love that has been proven to be consistently unconditional and unending – a mother’s love.
And in the primetime series Sino Ang Maysala? Mea Culpa, we could see different stories of motherhood aside from the central narrative where it revolves. Basically, it follows the journey of Fina Baniaga (Jodi Sta. Maria), a poor mom unrelentingly searching for her daughter and the fight of Juris Montelibano (Bela Padilla) to keep the child she adopted and taken care of as her own under her custody.
But as the narrative progresses, we get to meet the other mothers included in this narrative and be inspired and moved with their respective stories that others might have failed to take note of. And one of them is Lolita del Rio, impeccably portrayed by promising sexy actress Ivana Alawi.
The early years of her marriage with businessman Lucio Del Rio (Jay Manalo), who’s way older than her, were indeed filled with love and sweetness, until jealousy and infidelity crept in. He turned out to be an abusive husband as he ruthlessly punched, strangled, and slammed her in their every altercation and even hurt her to the core with her piercing words.
Appallingly, amidst of all the pains and bruises she acquired, she still chose to stay with him under one roof thinking that it’s the right thing to do, especially for their children Chloe and Samuel. Besides, she didn’t want her friend-slash-lover Greco (Kit Thompson) to be involved in her plight, fearing that Lucio might kill both of them at point-blank and, at the same time, take their children away from her. Thus, she just endured all the pain and pretended that she is still doing fine in front of the kids even though she’s already breaking apart.
However, it wasn’t only to Lucio that Lolita has to protect her kids as Greco began to demand her to allow him to at least hold and speak with her firstborn, who turned to be his son as well. He even attempted to kidnap him but failed after she caught him then warned him to back off, lest she would sue him.
Eventually, despite the fears and negative implications, Lolita has mustered enough courage as she forged allegiance with Greco, and together they toppled Lucio down and successfully escaped from him together with her children.
But everything ended in tragedy as Lolita succumbed to her fatal wounds from a car accident that has been revealed to be a result of foul play—masterminded by Juris. As Greco, who was driving the ill-fated vehicle, survived the mishap and slowly regaining consciousness, will he succeed in giving justice to his beloved Lolita? Let’s find out in the remaining episodes of Sino Ang Maysala? Mea Culpa weeknights on Primetime Bida.
In honoring her memory, here are 10 scenes wherein Lolita showed she had been a protective mother to her children.
