High Profile: Gela Atayde

Meet Maria Angela Atayde, actress and hip-hop virtuoso!

As much as it is anchored on the experience and wisdom of the veterans, the future of showbiz lies in the hands of the industry’s new breed of talents, especially those who show intense passion for their craft.

One good example is Gela Atayde, who plays Sanya in the trending Kapamilya series “Senior High.” Get to know her better as she answers fun questions in this edition of High Profile.

Just like her mom Sylvia Sanchez and siblings Ria Atayde and Arjo Atayde, Gela proves that dancing skills run in their blood. She started dancing young; in fact, her favorite childhood memory was performing “Otso-Otso” at her parents’ wedding. Dancing is her favorite sport, apart from volleyball, softball, and badminton. When not working, Gela takes dance classes, as well as edits photos and videos.

Born on June 20, 2002, she is a Gemini, the star sign said to have two personalities which she admits is kind of true. She likes the color pink or rose gold, “I think it reminds me a lot of my childhood kasi ever since I was a kid, parang pink ‘yung palaging pinapagamit sa akin ng mom ko, pink ‘yung room ko.”

If you wish to give her food, make sure it’s spicy, or salty, or savory. If you want to give her ice cream, you will never go wrong with vanilla flavor; she will appreciate cookie dough and cake batter too.

Thinking of a gift for Gela? Tip: She has a shoe collection! Her favorite travel destination is Orlando, Florida “because of Disney World.”

The qualities she looks for in a friend are loyalty, trustworthiness, and good humor.

Gela describes herself as an average student, “As long as I don’t fail, okay lang ako.” She’s a busy campus gal as she’s also a student-leader, a student-athlete, and the captain of their dance team, “So, kind of like hindi ko masyadong natutukan ‘yung school ko back in high school because I was so focused on dance.”

She swears that she’s not the kind of student that you should be afraid of, “I am loved by everyone. I love everyone.”

If you love Gela, catch her on “Senior High,” which also stars Andrea Brillantes, Kyle Echarri, Zaijian Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, JK Labajo, Elijah Canlas, and Daniela Stranner. It airs weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, TV5, and A2Z.
