Being in the industry for almost three decades, we have seen her portray a plethora of roles that ranges from the most abhorred wicked antagonist to the most admired loving mom to one of the characters of the series she stars in. And starting September 30, we’re about to see her anew in another maternal role in the anticipated newest teleserye offering of ABS-CBN, Sandugo.
Being trusted to play another substantial character, not to mention a mother, Cherry Pie Picache related how she feels grateful and blessed for this new feat during the recently-held media conference of the upcoming afternoon soap opera.
“Of course, I’ll always be grateful and it’s always a blessing unang-una dahil may trabaho ka. And sobrang grateful ako kasi ‘yong mga roles na binibigay sa akin sobrang challenging,” she told the press and the online content producers present in the event.
She then went on to share that she’s been dubbed as the “pinaka-powerful matres (uterus)” because majority of the maternal roles she portrayed on television gave birth to either twins or triplets, namely, Saan Ka Man Naroroon (1999-2001), Tayong Dalawa (2009), Ina, Kapatid, Anak (2012-2013), and The Blood Sisters (2018).
When asked which among her portrayals in these series she found the most unforgettable, the 49-year-old multi-awarded actress refused to pick as every character bestowed to her, as well as the story and the actors who served as her children, were all interesting in different ways.
Since she’s been playing almost the same role in the past 28 years, it’s indeed intriguing to know how she makes her each performance unique from the previous ones she took on. According to her, she always swears by her “truth and honesty” principle.
“At the end of the day, it’s always truth and honesty. ‘Yon ang ginagamit ko kasi kapag ‘truth and honesty’, it transcends e, whatever culture, status, [o] ‘yong emotion na pinaparating mo. In terms of giving different flavors to the characters I portrayed, malaking bagay ‘yon na kasama ng pag-aaral mo kung anong gagawin mo do’n sa character na gagawin mo, ‘yong istorya, at saka ‘yong ibang characters na kasama doon,” she explained, and went on to convey that it just comes naturally once her character already come face-to-face with the other characters.
Talking about her latest character in Sandugo, Cherry Pie revealed that Joan is going to be different from her other maternal roles for she would not conform to the principle to which every parent, especially a mother, sticks by. When asked if she’s going to do the same thing Joan did in the drama, she said that naturally, she would not, but it’s still difficult to tell since she’s not in the situation of Joan or the other moms that have the same plight as the latter.
