In her 19 years in the entertainment industry, Jodi Sta. Maria’s brilliance continues to shine amidst the constant changes and the entry of new promising artists.
She started to become a household name in 1999 when she landed her first-ever television lead role in the teen-oriented program Tabing Ilog where she played the tomboyish Georgina and got paired with Baron Geisler.
After a year, she joined the powerhouse cast of one of the most successful teleseryes of ABS-CBN of all time Pangako Sa’yo (2000), portraying the rebellious Lia Buenavista. Little did she know that 15 years later, she would be included in its remake and would take on the role originally by Eula Valdez – Amor Powers. Her performance in the latter was highly acclaimed by the critics and audiences and even earned her a Best Actress nomination from the International Emmy Awards.
Jodi was given another supporting role in Darating Ang Umaga (2003), where she was teamed up with fellow Tabing Ilog alumnus Patrick Garcia and worked with Ian Veneracion for the first time. After 12 years, she would reunite with the latter in the Pangako Sa’yo recreation in 2015 as her lover Eduardo Buenavista.
From teeny bopper characters, she transitioned to mature roles in the coming years. She portrayed maternal roles in Palos (2008), Ligaw na Bulaklak (2008), and Noah (2010-2011). Her supporting stints in the dramas Tayong Dalawa (2009), Tanging Yaman (2010), and Mundo Man Ay Magunaw (2012) also touched a lot of hearts.
The 35-year-old actress also showed off her versatility as an actress by being a kontrabida to Anne Curtis in the fantaserye Pablo S. Gomez’s Kampanerang Kuba (2005) and to Claudine Barretto in the romantic drama series Walang Kapalit (2007).
In 2011, she took part in the well-loved and critically-acclaimed series 100 Days to Heaven, top-billed by veteran actress Coney Reyes and her child counterpart Xyriel Manabat both playing as the domineering Anna Manalastas.
A year later, she’s destined to shine brighter when she headlined the daytime family drama Be Careful With My Heart as the bubbly and optimistic nanny Maya Dela Rosa alongside Sir Chief Richard Yap. It’s one of the most successful teleseryes ever produced by ABS-CBN after spawning worldwide popularity, praises, albums, concerts, and world tours during and after its airing.
Certainly, many fans have missed seeing Jodi on the small screen since she was last seen in the 2015 Pangako Sa ’Yo reboot. Thus, she’s now back to treat us all with another sure-fire teleserye through her newest project Sana Dalawa Ang Puso.
Here, she would play not only one, but two characters named Lisa and Mona. This will be her first with action icon Robin Padilla and her reunion with Richard Yap.
Being in the business for almost two decades is indeed a difficult feat that requires deep passion for the craft, determination, patience, and incomparable talent. And Jodi possesses all of these that cemented her reputation as one of the celebrated actresses in the country.
