She is a leading lady not considered typical.
Mona Bulalayao, impressively portrayed by Jodi Sta. Maria, may not exude that demure, feminine aura most female protagonists on teleseryes present. She may be boyish in the way she speaks, behaves, and looks, but it is through these attributes that she’s able to fascinate the people around her, and even the audiences, because of her amusing and admirable personality.
As Sana Dalawa Ang Puso reaches its finale, let us enumerate the many facets of Mona, who has brightened up our mornings in the past months.
A doting daughter
All of us are surely touched on how she takes good care her adoptive parents Ramon (Edgar Mortiz) and Lena (Alma Moreno) and always puts their welfare first before anything else. We witnessed her unconditional love for them right on the first week of the series, when she struggled to save her father from danger after he got involved in a scam by stealing money from the fraudulent Mr. Supapi (Leo Martinez).
Just when she thought that they’re going to have a new life in the city, things were actually going to get complicated. That’s why, she was left with no choice but to take another leap of faith when she accepted Lisa’s (also played by Jodi) hefty monetary offer in exchange of acting as her, in order to spare her Pangs and Mangs from further trouble.
Although it was later on found out that she was just adopted and her biological mother is the CEO of YTC, Sandra Tan (Irma Adlawan), she and her identical twin Lisa didn’t hold grudges against her and accepted her with open arms and whole-heartedly.
An accountable subordinate
Making Mona a bit odder was her former jobs – a bet collector in cockfights and a caretaker of roosters who were up for derbies. She’d been doing great in the tasks entrusted to her by Supapi, not to mention that she was his lucky charm, until he betrayed her.
As they transferred to Manila, Mona didn’t hesitate to take on the chambermaid position in the condominium where her bestfriend Leb (Kitkat) works. Not only her regular routines and special assignments greatly challenged her, but their domineering supervisor Anya as well.
Unexpectedly, she also got involved in an espionage job when Dagitab asked for her service and knowledge to help them trace and stop the illegal operations of Supapi’s group and of Odonata.
In all the jobs she took on, Mona made sure to be responsible in everything that would be put onto her lap, exert all her effort, and accomplish every task seamlessly.
A trustworthy friend
Before it was revealed that Lisa is simply not just her doppelganger, but actually her twin, Mona had been a dependable pal for her. She helped Lisa with her misery by disguising as the affluent lady boss and took charge of her personal matters while Lisa was busy communicating with a prospective business partner. Since then, they’ve been inseparable even until their shocking secret was revealed.
Mona was the first one to know about Lisa and Leo’s (Robin Padilla) marriage and became their go-to person in times of trouble, either as a couple or individuals.
An endearing lover
For sure, many can relate to Mona’s romantic affair. Initially, it was her who harbored feelings towards Martin (Richard Yap), so she relentlessly did things just to get his attention and affection. She’s been too concerned with him, to the point that she subconsciously interfered with his personal life. And she succeeded because he eventually fell in love with her and had the most kilig moments of their lives.
However, circumstances got in the way of their romance that led to their break up, yet destiny always makes their paths cross and shoves them back to each other’s arms. As Martin continues to woo her, she is also doing her part in order to rekindle their relationship.
A loving sister
Although it was only recently revealed that they are sisters by blood, Mona and Lisa have treated each other as sisters at heart. Since the first time they worked together, a special friendship blossomed between them, making them each other’s most trusted person.
Will everything turn out in Mona’s favor in the end? Let’s find out on the Heart 2 Heart Finale of Sana Dalawa Ang Puso, weekdays before It’s Showtime.
