This episode of Sagutan is all about the unhealthy comparisons between siblings. “Buti Pa Siya” stars Jem Macatuno as Keith the middle child black sheep, and Elyson De Dios as Christian the eldest golden boy. Their argument started when Keith took Christian’s white shirt without permission, but their frustrations revealed a more serious problem. “Hindi niya kasi ako naiintindihan,” they both thought.
Talking to their youngest brother, Christian expressed that he only wants Keith to be more responsible, “Lagi na lang ginagawa niya ‘yung gusto niya. Hindi niya iniisip kung tama ba o mali.” In fact, he feels that being the eldest has put unfair pressure on him to be a good son.
Talking to his partner, Keith shared that he wants to be acknowledged too. Unfortunately, the constant comparison to Christian is discouraging him, “Puro na lang mali, ‘yun lang yata nakikita nila sa akin. Pero ‘pag may ginawa naman akong tama, makukumpara naman ako sa kanya.” As a result, he turns to his music and his friends for happiness.
Neither of them actually likes being compared to the other. Admittedly, the brothers are envious of each other. Keith wants to be appreciated just like his older brother, “Nung mga bata pa kami, siya nga ‘yung tinitingalaan ko.” Christian wants to be free just like his younger brother, “Napaglalaban niya ‘yung passion niya.”
They may have differences but the two are proud of each other’s skills and talents. “Buti pa siya” was their last line. It is a statement that holds hope that these brothers will see eye to eye someday.
“Buti Pa Siya” was directed by Joshue Isaac Dizon and written by Job Timbalopez.
