Kiara and Ian tackle “Sagutan” episode, share principles on love and commitment

To spend these difficult times in a picturesque paradise like La Union might sound like a dream, too tranquil and enviable, but according to ex-Pinoy Big Brother Otso housemate and La Union native Kiara Takahashi, the lockdown period in her hometown is just as scary and uncertain. The ‘new normal’ in the surfing capital of the country doesn’t differ from what city dwellers experience.

Thankfully, though she’s with her family all throughout and the beach resorts are starting to resume operations, slowly and still in obedience to government protocols. The locals are now allowed to surf the waves, an opportunity for Kiara to be more active and have a taste of real summer vibes.

Ian Pangilinan, on the other hand, spent most of the quarantine period conducting relief operations with his family and bonding with them. He urges everyone to make a difference as well, even with just the littlest act of help.

Kiara and Ian headline Online Kapamilya Shows’ Sagutan Presents: “Hanggang Dito Na Lang Ba?” where they play as lovers caught at a crossroad and trying to figure if a happy ending still awaits them in the end. The trailer hints at Ian’s character’s apprehensions of taking the relationship to the next level due to past traumatic love experiences. Kiara’s Missy, on the other hand, is all geared up to settle down but is starting to grow impatient waiting for Ian’s commitment.

Sharing their personal ‘hugot,’ about the story, both Ian and Kiara agree that it is impossible to feel a hundred percent ready for love but the relationship might still work out if only both parties learn how to give and take. “Walang perpekto sa relationship. Walang taong ready na ready pero kaya n’yo naman pagtulungan para maging ready kayo sa isa’t isa. At the end of the day we accept each other’s good and bad parts,” shares Ian.

Love always comes as a surprise, anyway and it is the beauty of plunging into the unknown that makes life a little exciting. As Kiara highlights, “You will never know if you’re ready or not until you do it. It’s about taking risks. Even the good things that happen in our life are unexpected. In relationships, kung mahal mo ‘yung tao walang hahadlang.”

How will someone manage to fight for a relationship built with apprehensions? Ian and Kiara share the same viewpoint – hold on to the love that ignited the relationship and stop making excuses. “Hahawakan ko ‘yung pagmamahal kasi whether you’re ready or not, ‘yung pagmamahal na ‘yun is enough reason to face everything with that person,” she says.

Ian adds, “Kung naniniwala ka sa sarili mo na worth it ipaglaban ang mga good parts kasama na ‘yung status n’yo and kung gusto n’yo naman, kung gusto may paraan, kung ayaw laging may dahilan.”

Lastly, on their key takeaways from the episode, Kiara asserts, “If you really love someone, you fight for it. Marami talagang hadlang along the way and hindi mawawala ang mga hadlang sa isang relationship because relationships are not perfect. Pero kung mahal n’yo ang isat isa, kahit anong hadlang pa, ‘yung pagmamahal is enough to fight for it.”

Ian brings in what he learned from his character, saying “Lahat ng tao kapag natatakot sa relationship or feeling nila hindi sila ready, ibig sabihin may pinanggagalingan, so magandang intindihin natin sila at pakinggan natin ang mga rason nila.”

Before the interview ends, Ian and Kiara take on the virtual “Where Am I” and “Bring Me” games. Kiara wins in the first round but she gives way and lets Ian dominate the second challenge. Through that Bring Me game, we learn that Ian’s family is into traveling. When asked if he is in a relationship at the moment, the actor wishes to keep his romantic status a secret.
