We may still be in the midst of a pandemic, yet Pinoy Big Brother is definitely unstoppable in opening its doors anew for its newest season -- the Kumunity Season 10 last weekend, October 16 and 17, initially welcoming 12 personalities from fields of show business, athletics, pageantry, and online content creation who will comprise the celebrity edition.
The much-awaited event, which trended online via the hashtag #PBBKumunityParty, commenced with perennial host Toni Gonzaga pulling the hand lever to signal the beginning of another exciting season. PBB Connect alumni Kobie Brown, Andi Abaya, Liofer Pinatacan, and Jie-Ann Armero grooved to the theme song “Sikat Ang Pinoy”.
Apart from Toni, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal and Robi Domingo will reprise their roles as main hosts for this season, while Melai Cantiveros and Enchong Dee will host the online companion show PBB Kumulitan. Richard, on the other hand, returns as the host for the updates. Alumni Kim Chiu, Sky Quizon, and Edward Barber were also among the hosts in the kick-off event.
Comprising the 12 celebrity housemates were actors Alexa Ilacad (Smartista Unica Hija ng Pasig), Brenda Mage (Fun-Along Comedian ng Cagayan de Oro), TJ Valderama (Laughter Lodi ng Manila); up-and-coming young stars Anji Salvacion (Singing Sweetheart ng Siargao), KD Estrada (Musical Wonder Boy ng Parañaque City), and Shanaia Gomez (Rising Darling ng Quezon City); online personalities Daisy Lopez a.k.a. “Madam Inutz” (Mama-bentang Live Seller ng Cavite), Eian Rances (Striving Streamer ng Quezon), and Karen Bordador (Ms. Brightside ng Makati City); athletes John Adajar (Mr. Mixed Martial Arts Ama ng Laguna) and Alyssa Valdez (Heartstrong Phenom ng Batangas), and beauty queen Samantha Bernardo (Bread-Queen-Er ng Palawan).
They were introduced one by one and given a bag full of big coins, which were equivalent to diamonds they were able to accumulate from the online challenges they took on in the previous days prior to their entrance to the house. These indeed played a vital part in their first task, wherein they had to “purchase” the pieces of furniture, appliances, and other stuff they’re going to use throughout their stay.
Once they were all inside and had already placed the big coins they collected in one container, it was revealed that they were able to earn a total of 6,190 big coins, with Eian garnering the most number of diamonds amounting to 19.65 million. They were later on divided to four with three members each to conduct their task of shopping for their necessities with a twist.
The hosts also disclosed that apart from the 12 initial housemates, five more housemates are going to join them, namely, Huwag Kang Mangamba actor Kyle Echarri (Golden Son ng Cebu), Init Sa Magdamag stars Chie Filomeno (Calendar Vixen ng Antipolo City) and Albie Casiño, and Kumu streamers Bendix Ramos and Jordan Andrews.
In the second episode, the housemates continued their furniture and appliance shopping and were able to spend 5,675 big coins. They were tasked afterwards to get their purchases and arrange those according to the guidebook bestowed to them. Each of them also had the chance to talk with Big Brother for the first time, who prepared a sumptuous feast as a way of welcoming them. Their first day ended with them bantering with one another as they ate and washed dishes afterwards, before going to bed.
