Pinoy Big Brother has been part of avid Kapamilya fans’ lives through the years ever since it started in 2005. It has run for 11 seasons already, being the ongoing PBB Gen 11 as the latest edition, and welcomed hundreds of individuals from various walks of life and all ages who took on the challenges not just given by Kuya, but of showcasing their genuine selves, too.
However, it has not only produced Big Winners and future stars of the country in the past two decades that it’s been on, but also tandems that provided kilig during their stints in the reality show and beyond. And in this episode of Kapamillya Time-list, let us reminisce about the swooning moments of these 12 PBB loveteams while they were still inside the house.
Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson
Commencing the list is KimErald, who immediately captivated us with their palpable chemistry that even transcended beyond their Teen Edition 1 stint. By the end of the competition, Kim was hailed as the Big Winner, while Gerald finished in the 3rd place.
KimErald instantly became the hottest loveteam in showbiz as soon as they returned to the outside world, appearing in a slew of movie and television shows, such as Sana Maulit Muli (2007), My Girl (2008), and Tayong Dalawa (2009). Things eventually got real between them and then ended, which also affected their onscreen team-up. And in 2017, Kim and Gerald delighted their ardent shippers when they did the daytime series Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin, which served as their reunion project.
Both of them have remained two of the brightest Kapamilya stars at present, with Kim being a regular figure on It’s Showtime and ASAP Natin ‘To, while Gerald apparently focuses more on his other endeavors outside the industry after starring in the 2022 primetime series A Family Affair.
Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco
The differences in their personalities definitely didn’t serve as a hindrance for friendship and love to bloom between Melai and Jason during their Double Up days. Their funny antics and kilig interactions inside the house indeed brought joy to the spectators, which gave birth to the MelaSon loveteam and their “child,” Baby Dengue.
After their victorious stint in the reality program, with Melai being proclaimed the Big Winner and Jason the 3rd Big Placer, their showbiz career took off along with their romantic affair. They got married on December 9, 2013, and now have two pretty and talented children, namely Amelia Lucille and Stela Rosalind.
While Jason seems to have taken a step back from the limelight for now, Melai continues to flourish, as aside from her hosting stints in PBB Gen 11, Magandang Buhay, and Kuan On One, she’s also an award-winning actress due to her awesome performance in the comedy film “Ma'am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul”. This paved the way for their family to be named the honorary ambassador for Korea Family Tourism in the Philippines for the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) this year.
Joshua Garcia and Loisa Andalio
Living under one roof for months and enjoying each other’s company during their “All In” stint, Joshua and Loisa grew closer with one another, and the “LoiShua” tandem was born. Both of them may have fallen short in their bid to become the Big Winner, yet they achieved success back in the outside world.
They were paired with each other in the 2015 soap opera Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita, which Loisa headlined alongside ex-housemate Jane Oineza and seasoned singer-actress Vina Morales, as well as in the 2017 family crime drama The Good Son, in which Joshua starred alongside McCoy de Leon, Nash Aguas, and Jerome Ponce.
Both of them continue to thrive in showbiz, with Pira-Pirasong Paraiso being Loisa’s last acting project and the Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean series “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” being Joshua’s next teleserye gig to watch out for.
Bailey May and Ylona Garcia
A perfect example of a nonchalant and OA pair, BaiLona still delightfully clicked with each other despite being polar opposites. They were able to charm viewers of the “737” edition not just with their looks but with their adorable personalities and impressive musical chops, too! In fact, one of their tasks was to record their rendition of the iconic “Magmahal Muli,” sang by OG housemates Sam Milby and Say Alonzo.
Their PBB journey ended well, with Ylona being the 1st Big Placer and Bailey being the 4th Big Placer. The two did several projects together, including playing supporting characters in the well-loved teleserye On The Wings of Love and taking part in the Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs 2016 as the voices behind the award-winning entry “O Pag-ibig.”
Both of them eventually pursued separate international careers in music, with Bailey becoming a member of the global group Now United and Ylona becoming a recording artist for the American-Asian international record label 88rising.
Tommy Esguerra and Miho Nishida
It seemed to be a case of love at first sight for ToMiho, whose love story started the very moment that they first met inside the house after Big Brother told Miho to help Tommy on his first-ever task. As their team-up drew loads of support from “737” viewers, the “ToMiho A Love Realiserye” was even created as a segment under It’s Showtime in 2015.
The said edition concluded with Miho being named the Big Winner and Tommy placing as her runner-up. They became a real-life couple and got cast in the daytime drama Langit Lupa (2016) before breaking up in 2017. At present, it seems that Tommy has gone back to the United States, while Miho has been in Japan with her daughter Aimi.
Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber
Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without the MayWard tandem, who got us enamored by their cute and hilarious interactions during “Lucky Season 7.” They may have come from different backgrounds – Maymay being the “Miss Wacky-Go-Lucky of Cagayan De Oro” and Edward being the “Cheerful Charmer ng Germany” – yet they were still able to establish an awesome friendship while inside the house and even beyond.
They were widely admired both as individuals and as a pair, with Maymay being named the Big Winner and Edward as the 4th Big Placer. The two went on to appear in several projects together, such as fantaseryes La Luna Sangre (2017) and Hiwaga ng Kambat (2019), as well as films “Loving In Tandem” (2017) and “Princess DayaReese” (2021).
Sadly, their phenomenal partnership ended a couple of years ago, and they’re now treading on separate paths. Maymay focuses on her musical career, while Edward continues to hone his hosting chops.
McCoy de Leon and Elisse Joson
Both of them may have been in showbiz for quite some time already prior to entering the house as part of the “Lucky Season 7” edition, but it was only the first time that the paths of McCoy and Elisse intertwined. They grew closer in the months that they’d been together, which led to the birth of McLisse.
Elisse fell short of becoming part of the Big 7, while McCoy and his 2-in-1 partner Nikko Natividad ended up in 6th place. McLisse eventually became a real-life pair and starred in the Kapamilya series The Good Son (2017) and film “Sakaling Maging Tayo” (2019).
Their relationship may have been tested a lot of times, but they’re able to conquer them together and are now happy and proud parents to their unica hija Felize McKenzie. McCoy currently draws hate for his compelling depiction of David in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, while Elisse astounded fans with her kontrabida flair in Dirty Linen and Pira-Pirasong Paraiso.
Karina Bautista and Aljon Mendoza
There were several loveteams that were formed during the “Otso” season, and one of them was Karina and Aljon, collectively known as KarJon. They got closer with each other, especially when they had to do special tasks, challenges, and household chores together.
Even though both of them failed to attain their goals of becoming the Big Winner, they succeeded in winning the hearts of the Kapamilya audiences through their appearances together in Sandugo (2019), Viral Scandal (2021), Hoy, Love You (2021-2022), and Maalaala Mo Kaya (2022). KarJon had their reunion via the Made For YouTube series “Hex Boyfriend.” Karina last appeared in Can’t Buy Me Love, while Aljon is cast in the Star Cinema film “Un/Happy For You.”
Lou Yanong and Andre Brouillette
While most of the couples who met inside PBB only started their relationship once they’re back in the outside world, Lou and Andre were already an item while they were still inside the house. Aside from looking so good together, not to mention that both their families were supportive of them, LouDre also considered #CoupleGoals since both of them made it to the Big 8 of the “Otso” season, with Lou landing in 3rd place and Andre in 4th.
Unfortunately, they decided to break up, mainly due to distance since Andre went back to the US while Lou has been in the Philippines. She’s been dabbling in modeling and acting, with the action drama series The Iron Heart being one of her remarkable appearances.
Kiara Takahashi and Gino Roque
Another loveteam formed during the “Otso” season was KiaNo, comprised of Kiara and Gino, whose extreme closeness also brought kilig to their avid fans. They may have to be separated for a while after Gino got evicted first and Kiara had to wait ‘til the Big Night to go out of the house because she was proclaimed the 2nd Big Placer, yet they’re still able to continue their partnership.
However, things didn’t go well between them in the outside world, and their team-up got derailed. At present, both of them are already in happy relationships with their non-showbiz partners, with Gino focusing on his endeavors outside showbiz, while Kiara got cast in the musical play adaptation of the classic Pinoy film “One More Chance”.
Kobie Brown and Andi Abaya
With how adorable they are together and individually, it seemed not to be difficult for Andi and Kobie to capture a lot of hearts during their stint in the “Connect” edition. Apparently, their admirable personalities, along with their palpable chemistry that they were able to build through their tight bond, helped them reach their ambition of making it to the Big 4, with Andi snagging 2nd place and Kobie the 3rd place.
The KoDrea team-up continued in the outside world, with the pair being each other’s date in various ABS-CBN social events and appearing in movie, TV, and theater projects together, including Love In 40 Days in 2022.
Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada
Last but definitely not the least is KDLex, whose connection started when both of them became “Kumunity Season 10” housemates. They may have struggles of their own, yet KD and Alexa were there for one another whenever one of them would need a shoulder to cry on. They eventually became best friends and even jam buddies since they were both inclined to music and are really talented.
They may have fallen short as well of becoming Big Winners of their batch, but they still felt like winners due to the outpouring admiration and blessings that they’ve received. Being tagged “The Hottest Musical Pair,” they’d already staged a couple of concerts and starred together in a few acting gigs, such as the iWantTFC series “Run To Me” and the afternoon soap opera Pira-Pirasong Paraiso.
Which of these PBB loveteams do you admire the most, Kapamilya?
