In the Kapamilya series “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso,” the female characters are not the only ones trapped in intense rivalries, as even the gentlemen share exhilarating face-to-face moments with their nemeses, too. Case in point: Jonaf (Ronnie Alonte) and Kano (Markus Paterson), whose rivalry involves not only a shared romantic interest but also a crime that has changed the course of Jonaf’s life.

Jonaf and Kano have had their history written like they’ve always been destined to become enemies, as the former works as a cop while the latter is a con artist and member of a syndicate group. And the feud got all the more embittered when Kano shot Jonaf’s father, who was also a policeman, in a previous encounter.
Tension escalated further when they got involved in the lives of the Paraiso sisters. Jonaf was hired as the bodyguard of Baby (Loisa Andalio), who was then pretending as one-third of the Paraiso sisters, Amy. Then, Kano would enter the picture to either help or sabotage Baby’s actions, as ordered by their adoptive father Badong (Epy Quizon).
Kano and Jonaf would often engage in action-packed duels where martial arts bravado and strategic maneuvers take center stage. There was a scene where Jonaf caught Kano in the act of trying to steal a vehicle, leading to an exhausting chase in the market. Kano had the chance to shoot Jonaf dead, but fortunately, Hilary (Elisse Joson) made a way to save the cop.
Somehow, they vied for the same woman. But as the story progressed, the rivalry got more hinged on Jonaf’s desire for vengeance after learning that Kano was his father’s gunman. So, here comes the sequence where Jonaf is finally able to unleash his vengeance on the man responsible for his father’s death. The scene started with a chase and hand-to-hand combat until Jonaf trapped his opponent and did what he thought was a satisfying act. He brutally and repeatedly hit Kano’s face, targeting one side of the latter’s face, which resulted in his blindness.
Just when we thought Kano’s blindness would be a significant wound that would stop him from doing evil, their succeeding encounters would only be fraught with greater resentment. Unfortunately, it only motivated Kano to stay with the wicked side. And whenever he’s almost caught, he resorts to sarcasm to provoke his adversary and prove that Jonaf isn’t capable of taking him down.
In the recent episodes, Jonaf held Kano captive and tried to confront him about Badong’s whereabouts. But instead of flinching in fear, Kano only spitted out large doses of mockery and annoying retorts, making fun of Jonaf’s inability to kill people, which he said is a sign of weakness.
Pushed to his limits, Jonaf tortured Kano and was close to killing him when Baby discovered the hideout and begged him to stop his destructive actions. She reminded him that they’re not the type to slaughter the wicked, rather, they should just let justice stage the ultimate punishment.
