Navigating the realms of motherhood is an adventure filled with both challenges and beautiful moments that make your heart swell with appreciation. Along with the beauty and fulfillment that motherhood brings, there are constant adjustments, as new moms find themselves grappling with the overwhelming changes that come their way.
In a conversation with Kapamilya Chat, Elisse Joson, mom to two-year-old Felize, opened up about the intricate journey of balancing her thriving career with the responsibilities of motherhood. Acknowledging the challenges, she underscored the importance of reassessing priorities, saying that sometimes there’s a thin line between work and mommy duties.
Not that moms aren’t allowed to enjoy their lives outside motherhood, it’s just that, for Elisse, she knows her daughter is more important. What she does is bring Felize to her ‘ganaps’ or even me-time, “Para I get the best of both worlds. I don’t think din naman na kailangan i-sacrifice ang sarili natin when we’re moms.”
She further shared an endearing insight into how she bridges the gap between work commitments and her role as a mother. Through video calls, she’s able to introduce her baby daughter to her world, “Ipapakita ko kung anong ginagawa ko. Makikita niya na naka-makeup ako, nakaayos ako. So, gets niya kahit papaano na, ‘Ah, ‘pag nag-work si Mommy, ganito siya.’”
“Even though they’re very young, you explain to them everything kasi you never know what they can pick up,” she imparted.
Asked her favorite bonding activities with Felize, the actress said she treasures the precious moments spent at home. Her favorite bonding moments revolve around those heartwarming interactions where she sees her daughter’s adorable smiles. She cherishes those little moments.
Offering advice to fellow mothers facing the difficult juggling act, Elisse admitted that it’s extra challenging when lacking a support system. Drawing from her experience, she encouraged new moms to not shy away from seeking help, but you just have to know who to trust.
On parenting style, she revealed a dynamic partnership with McCoy de Leon, saying they’ve intentionally established a balance in their roles. She aims to be the less strict, comforting figure her daughter can run to, while McCoy takes on the role of the disciplinarian. This harmonious approach reflects their commitment to providing a well-rounded and nurturing home for their daughter.
Catch Elisse on the big screen as Felicity in “Mallari,” a horror film by Derick Cabrido. "Mallari" is one of the official entries in the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
