Markus Paterson shares interesting details about his character in “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso”

“The set is always fun,” said Markus Paterson when asked about his new teleserye “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso,” where he plays the con artist Kano.

Markus joins the cast comprised of old and new co-workers – Loisa Andalio, Charlie Dizon, Alexa Ilacad, Elisse Joson, Ronnie Alonte, KD Estrada, Joseph Marco, and more. But currently, he shares more scenes with Loisa and Elisse, as well as seasoned actors Sunshine Dizon and Epy Quizon, with whom he’s developed a real-life family dynamic.

“Kahit marami kaming mabigat na eksena, pagkatapos, nagtatawanan lang kami. We’ve reached that level already,” he shared. Of course, he wasn’t this comfortable during the first days of taping. Markus was admittedly nervous when he first stepped into the set. “I was like, ‘Kaya ko ba ‘to? Mukhang bigatin itong cast na ‘to.’”

He’s also become more comfortable portraying Kano, though there’s more to the character that the audience is yet to see. Markus hints that Kano has many layers, and he isn’t like all the other characters he’s done before. For one, he isn’t black and white, not the typical character that viewers will immediately categorize as a good or a bad guy.

Interestingly, Kano’s character requires Markus to speak in Filipino. “It’s exciting ‘cause wala talaga siyang kahit isang English na linya.” Asked how he prepared for this challenge, the Fil-Brit actor replied, “Ginagaya ko lang ‘yung mga pinsan ko sa Cainta, the way they speak.”

“Ako kasi, I speak a lot of English. It’s my first language. I’m more comfortable speaking in English. Pero when it comes to acting talaga, you have to prepare for the role and do your best.”

“I’m just blessed na parang wala na akong problema sa Tagalog masyado. Hindi na ako nabubulol,” he shared.

In keeping with the story’s theme, Kapamilya Chat asked Markus his definition of “paraiso,” to which he replied, “My son.”
