The Sagrado clan is notorious for being born out of wickedness and evil, but Rafael Sagrado (Piolo Pascual) is the first to prove that there's still a good soul in the family. A rose can bloom even among the thorns, right? Rafael's kindness and moral uprightness were evident when he sided with the Malonzos, knowing they were innocent and merely being scapegoated by the Sagrados. Even if it meant turning his back on his family and living a life opposite to what he experienced with them, he chose to do what is right.
In this edition of Kapamilya Toplist, we rounded up all the times Rafael helped the Malonzo family in “Pamilya Sagrado.”
When Rafael learned through Atty. Divine (Aiko Melendez) that the Sagrados framed Moises Malonzo (Kyle Echarri) for the shooting of then-President Eleazar Sagrado (John Arcilla), leading to his imprisonment and even having him beaten up by the Sagrados while in jail, he immediately listened to his conscience. He quickly ordered one of his men to break Moises out of prison and bring him to a safe place while making everyone believe that Moises had died from the stabbing he suffered in jail.
Despite Moises doubting his intentions, Rafael didn’t break his promise to protect and help him. However, Rafael’s idea of ‘saving’ Moises was to hide him away and give him a chance to star anew, which didn’t align with Moises’ vision of fighting for truth and justice.
When President Eleazar woke up from his coma, Rafael had no choice but to listen to Eleazar's plans to reveal the truth—that his own brother, Jaime (Tirso Cruz), had attempted to kill him and that Rafael’s son, Justin (Grae Fernandez), was responsible for Roland's (JC Alcantara) death during the Gamma Sigma Xi fraternity initiation rites.
It was a huge sacrifice for Rafael to expose the crime of his son Justin, but he stated that he was only choosing to do what is right and wanted to make amends for the suffering his relatives caused to Moises' family. Moises even told Rafael that Justin was lucky to have him as a father, but neither of them knew at the time that they were father and son as well.
Even though it was dangerous, Rafael visited Moises every night at his hideout to bring him food. However, Moises was eventually discovered and escaped. While Moises was missing, Rafael spoke to his adoptive father, Estong (Joel Torre), and adoptive sister, Grace (Shaina Magdayao), promising to help them. He assured them that the police who previously abused Grace would be held accountable and pleaded with them to let him assist in the way he knew best—by hiding the them from the venom of the Sagrados.
In one scene, Rafael even sacrificed his own life by pretending to be held hostage by Moises to help him escape and to free Danica (Micaela Santos), Eleazar's daughter, who had also been kidnapped by their own Sagrado relatives. The plan and teamwork between Rafael, Moises, and Danica succeeded. Rafael brought Moises and Danica to the hideout where Estong and Grace were, fulfilling his promise to protect them.
Watching the bond between Rafael and Moises, we can’t wait for the day when Rafael can finally tell Moises that he is his son. Catch the thrilling episodes of “Pamilya Sagrado,” weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, TV5, and A2Z.
