They say that pure evil runs in the blood of the Sagrado family, and it shows when they're backed into a corner—they can be really harsh, even to their own kin. But what surprised us was that Elias (John Arcilla), whom the clan looked down as just a bastard, turned out to be the most caring father to his estranged daughter Danica (Micaela Santos).
Even though Elias and Danica had just reconnected, he had been making every effort to make up for lost time. Now, as Elias, who is also the President, fights for his life after being stabbed by his own brother Jaime (Tirso Cruz III), it’s heart-wrenching to think about how they were apart for so long and how fate continues to rob them of their time together. Yet, for Danica, there remains hope that her dad will recover.
As we await Elias's fate, let’s revisit the moments in the political drama "Pamilya Sagrado" where he genuinely tried to be a good father to Danica.
We open this Kapamilya Toplist video with their very first meeting. Danica arrived at a restaurant where Elias was having dinner with his relatives from the Sagrado clan. She approached him, holding a piece of paper. Elias jokingly suggested that she might want an autograph, calling her "anak" in jest. However, he was taken aback when Danica introduced herself as a Sagrado, presenting her birth certificate and a necklace as evidence of their connection—a memento from Elias’s past relationship with Danica’s mother, Monica.
Elias had no trouble accepting Danica, as she was a kind-hearted child. When he visited her modest home, he saw photos of Danica and her mom and learned about their difficult journey. He discovered how they had endured hardships together until Danica’s mother fell ill and eventually passed away.
Elias rescued his daughter from a dire situation by bringing her to his mansion, offering her a life of luxury and the chance to attend the prestigious Crestwood University. Showing his commitment to building a bond with Danica, he went so far as to compile what he called the "Danica Bible"—a comprehensive guide filled with details about her likes, experiences, and everything he needed to know to truly connect with his child.
Elias beamed with joy when Danica shyly thanked him and called him "Sen," a nod to his then-current role as Senator. He gently urged her to call him "Papa" instead. Though Danica struggled to adjust to her new life with her biological father, she found solace in having someone who made her feel cherished and loved.
“Hindi na natin maibabalik ang nakaraan. Ang importante, ‘yung ngayon at bukas,” he said when she asked if he truly loved her mom. Danica immediately grasped that her parents' love story had been complicated due to his involvement with the Sagrados. Despite the pain, Elias’s promise to make it up to her and ensure a bright future was more than enough for her.
While his family worried that Danica might jeopardize his political aspirations, Elias proudly introduced her to the public and the media. He spoke with genuine pride, declaring that being a father was a blessing and that Danica had only inspired him to work more after seeing her needs. In true politician fashion, he drew a parallel between this newfound inspiration and how he would serve as a father to the nation.
In that scene where Elias brought Danica to his office as President, he told her, “Marami akong pagkukulang sa Mama mo pero babawi ako sa’yo,” in response to her sadness and frustration over what might have been if her mother had lived to become First Lady. Danica wistfully noted that her mother would have been the envy of everyone at the club. Her smile faded, however, as she realized that even if her mother had survived, Elias would never have been able to introduce her to the public.
Elias was deeply pained by the sight of Danica's lingering hurt and resentment from being abandoned by him. That night, he quietly visited her room and watched over her while she slept.
Although Elias wanted to prepare Danica for her new world, especially at Crestwood, he wasn’t the strict type. In one scene, noticing that she was weary and bored from studying, he told her private teacher it was time to call it a day.
As a father, he listened to his unica hija and was willing to grant any favor she asked for because he trusted her. Danica specifically asked President Sagrado to hear out Moises (Kyle Echarri) because she believed in his innocence. Elias agreed, despite knowing that this request could upset his relatives—Jaime, Rafael (Piolo Pascual), and Justin (Grae Fernandez)—who seemed to be hiding the true issues surrounding Moises. His decision to remain neutral and support Danica's plea demonstrated how her gentle influence guided him to do what he believed was right.
However, Elias’s efforts to aid Moises ultimately led to his downfall. In a fit of rage, Jaime stabbed him, leaving him now unconscious in the hospital. Will this incident mark the end of Elias’s role as Danica's father?
