He was initially adored for his remarkable singing chops and swooning handsomeness. But Kyle Echarri was able to prove, at the same time, that he’s definitely more than just his good voice and looks for he can also act, as seen in his teleserye and film stints over the years.
And, at present, he has been impressing us with his portrayal of Moises Malonzo, one of the lead characters in the ongoing ABS-CBN Studios series "Pamilya Sagrado." While he’s been consistently doing a great job, it was apparently in the highly talked-about “confession scene” in which he shone the brightest as he astounded viewers with his superb performance.
It can be recalled that in the “confession scene”, Moises harrowingly showed up at a press conference all by himself to own up to the frustrated murder of President Eleazar Sagrado (John Arcilla), which was all orchestrated by the wicked Jaime Sagrado (Tirso Cruz III), who’s the real culprit, with the help of his dependable right-hand Divine Torres (Aiko Melendez). He was compelled to do so as the lives of his family were being threatened.
In the recent media junket held by ABS-CBN Studios and Dreamscape Entertainment for the “bagong yugto” of the series, PUSH had the chance to ask him about the preparations he did for that particular scene.
Kyle, first and foremost, gave a shout out to Director Andoy Ranay as he thanked him for helping him deliver a superb performance during that scene and letting him shine the way he wanted to. They’ve been working together since the coming-of-age series "Senior High." According to the young actor, the director really helped him and gave him time to fully grasp the character and/or the scene since he knows his process as an actor.
“Siguro one of the biggest processes is really connecting with Moises. Like what I said, naging second skin ko siya. At napakahirap naman talaga ng nangyari sa kanya, ‘yong ginagawa niya ang lahat para gawing tama ang lahat pero sa dulo babaliktrain siya. Siya ang may kasalanan bigla. And he’s doing that for his family,” Kyle expounded.
Then he added, “It was a very hard scene, I admit. It’s one of the hardest scenes I’ve ever done kasi ‘yong levels of going from talking about kung anong nangyari to ito ang nangyari pero hindi totoo.”
He regarded the “confession scene” as one of those scenes that he found it difficult to let go of his emotions since he was still crying even after the director exclaimed, "Cut!” Thus, he’s delighted by the outcome of the scene and thankful for the positive feedback from the viewers who recognized his performance.
While he had several personal and career experiences in the past two years from which he could draw motivation or hugot, the plight of Moises and his family was already enough for him to completely feel the emotions required in every scene.
“Moises is one of the only characters na naka-connect na ako sa kanya at hindi lang ako humuhugot sa sarili kong hugot. Humuhugot na ako sa kanya sa sobrang lala na ng nangyayari kay Moises, nangyayari sa pamilya niya,” he said.
Kyle capped off the short interview by saying, “I’ve been enjoying this character so much!”
Catch him on Pamilya Sagrado, weeknights after "Lavender Fields," on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
