We Filipinos are well-known for our ‘close family ties’ culture as we are so passionate and attached with our families regardless of our age or status. Thus, it’s inevitable for our heartstrings to be easily pulled whenever the topic of ‘family’ is brought up, especially in the television programs and movies we have watched.
And this 2019, a new ABS-CBN teleserye is about to touch our hearts and souls through the exciting and relatable story of its main protagonists, the 10-piece Mabunga Family – Pamilya Ko.
But as we look forward on its premiere this coming September, let’s take a glimpse first of how it was created and get to know each of the characters as well through this video.
A brainchild of Creative Producer Mel del Rosario, who’s also one of the creators of the blockbuster early 2000s comedy-drama trilogy "Ang Tanging Ina," the upcoming primetime drama will serve as a tribute to a big family, a concept that is seldom seen in series and films nowadays.
Director Raymund Ocampo assured that many viewers can surely relate with its realistic narrative since just like every family, the members of the Mabunga Family also have differences in their personalities and their conflicts. Besides, he also takes pride on how each actor are indeed the perfect choice for their respective characters.
With the actors being able to identify with their roles, his co-director Paco Sta. Maria expressed that “it made their jobs easier as directors”. He commended the brilliance of the veteran and seasoned thespians, as well as the younger ones for they’re able to keep pace in every scene. As how he put it, “Overall, I can say ‘yong chemistry ng ensemble na ‘to ay very solid kasi they feed off one another.”
Moreover, the cast members also imparted their own definition of “family”, talked about the characters they’re going to portray, and told us the reason why Pamilya Ko is definitely a must-watch.
Pamilya Ko is top-billed by Joey Marquez as the hardworking patriarch Fernan, Sylvia Sanchez as the doting and understanding matriarch Luz, JM de Guzman as the responsible firstborn Chico, Kiko Estrada as the rebellious yet Mama’s Boy Beri, Kid Yambao as the playful and peacemaker Apol, Jairus Aquino as the achiever and effeminate Persi, Maris Racal as the kikay and social media-savvy Peachy, Kira Balinger as introvert and artistic Lemon, Mutya Orquia as the funny and naughty Cherry, and Raikko Mateo as the genius and affectionate Pongky.
Also part of the gregarious ensemble are Arci Muñoz, as Chico’s dependable best friend Betty, and Alyssa Muhlach, as Chico’s sophisticated friend and love interest Dra. Pia.
Get ready to have your hearts touched by Pamilya Ko beginning September 9.
