Sparks fly, albeit in the wrong direction, when Clark (James Reid) and Leah (Nadine Lustre) literally bumped into each other in the beautiful place of San Francisco. He lectured her for wandering in an unfamiliar place and for almost crashing into him. She tried to explain but the handsome stranger’s fluency and American accent left her speechless. This first encounter led to their adorable cat and dog relationship in the succeeding scenes. Hence, in this Kapmilya Toplist, we compiled the moments when Clark and Leah gave us that the-more-you-hate-the-more-you-love vibes with their incessant bickering.
Destiny had many times led Clark and Leah to each other but the hatred-at-first-sight also persisted until forever. She ran into him when she misplaced her wallet inside a shopping bag, making her assume that he was a thief. The incident ended with another hilarious quarrel, with Leah speaking Tagalog words, unaware that Clark is also a Filipino.
That was why when they got formally introduced to each other by Tita Jack (Cherry Pie Picache), Clark and Leah loathed their meeting, much more marrying each other for the sake of Leah’s visa. The confident Clark assumed that Leah orchestrated all their prior chance encounters because she has a crush on him, something she strongly denied. The two argued like little kids, prompting Tita Jack to intrude and explain the situation.
The concerned aunt, or fairy godmother to OTWOListas, brought Clark and Leah to a picnic date in an attempt to settle their differences. She explained how much they needed each other. At that time, Leah was in search of a US citizen who she could marry and pay for the sake of acquiring a green card while Clark was in need of money. Sensing Leah’s desperation, Clark demanded her to beg him first. She blurted out, “mukha ba akong beggar,” and called him, “kamahalan.” He then stipulated a whopping amount of ten thousand dollars, thrice Leah’s intended budget, inducing her “Ano ka? may kasamang ginto?” reaction. Things were settled, thankfully, through Tita Jack’s help.
The act kicked off. Required by Tita Jack to shoot a sham proposal scene, Clark and Leah automatically got on each other’s nerves until the bickering turned into an acting competition. The duo chiselled positive result out of their endless match as the proposal turned convincing and romantic.
Still urged by Tita Jack, Leah moved in to Clark’s apartment in order to mount more realism to their fake relationship. Clark asserted a few house rules in which the most important of all is, “rule number five: don’t fall in love with me.” She poked fun at his confidence.
Their first night as roommates turned into a complete disaster. First, they argued about the lights. Seeing Leah’s frightened reaction, Clark was convinced to just turn the switch on. Sleeping in extreme brightness is already a sacrifice on his part but he had to adjust with her loud snoring as well, making him extremely sluggish the next morning.
Now officially married, watch Clark and Leah as they transition from frenemies to Mr. and Mrs. on the rom-com series On The Wings of Love.
