Night 1 of Bruno Mars Live at Philippine Arena held last night June 24, 2023 was very eventful and almost made one forget the horrendous traffic people put up with on the way there. Bruno and The Hooligans, played a compact but dynamic and energetic set that had a very engaging ng flow to it. Bruno combined the swagger of Elvis Presley, the soulful chops of Earth Wind & Fire, and the performance wizardry of Michael Jackson. The Hooligans held the musical fort with aplomb and even had the time their own time to shine with their instrumental segments, the one before "Versace on the Floor" where they played this jazzy take on "Pure Imagination" is a great example in particular. The funk and soul were particularly high on opening "24K Magic", "Treasure", "Locked Out of Heaven", and encore song "Uptown Funk". The sweetness permeated on Mars' solo keyboard piano take on the Silk Sonic hit "Leave the Door Open" and the confessional heartbreak anthem "When I Was Your Man" (which clearly as Bruno said, was the most challenging song for him to write). If Night1 was any indication, Night 2 happening June 25 is going to be explosive.
