He’s been in the local entertainment scene for around a decade now, but it was only in 2016 when he became a Kapamilya. In his three years in the network, he has appeared in a slew of teleseryes and TV programs in which he’s able to captivate us not just with his swooning handsomeness, but with his unmistakable versatility as a well-rounded artist.
On the same year of his transfer to ABS-CBN, Enzo Pineda immediately landed a supporting role in the JaDine-starrer Till I Met You, wherein he astonished with his portrayal of Stephen, the gay boyfriend of JC Santos’ Ali. In 2017, he was tapped to be one of the headliners of the Kapamilya Gold drama Pusong Ligaw as Rafa, the third wheel to the romance of the lead couple Vida (Sofia Andres) and Ira (Diego Loyzaga).
He then became the affluent Datu in the controversial 2018 fantasy-drama series Bagani and was paired again with Sofia Andres. On that same year, he took part in the long-running primetime series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano as one of its guest stars.
And this 2019, he’s about to enthrall us anew with yet another remarkable character in the upcoming Kapamilya daytime series Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit. Thus, before its highly-anticipated pilot airing, ABS-CBN.com Entertainment recently grabbed the chance to talk with Enzo regarding his newest project.
Throughout his impressive showbiz career, the 28-year-old bankable heartthrob revealed that he is used going through auditions first before being able to seize a role in any project. That’s why he feels so delighted and blessed for being awarded the character of James Villaluna.
“Ang reaction ko is definitely masaya. It’s a blessing kasi ako sanay ako sa mga roles na nag-au-audition ako, so isa ‘to sa mga roles na thankful ako na hindi ko na kailangang mag-audition,” he started off in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN.com Entertainment. “But of course as an actor parang I still have to prove myself. Iba kasi ‘pag nag-audition ka e, parang you know you’re fit for the role e. Pero once something is given, parang extra challenging siya kasi you have to prove to people na ‘yong decision nila of choosing you is tama.”
As what we have mentioned, he will portray the role of James – the “loving, kindhearted, and family-oriented scion” of the influential Villaluna Family who yearns to make his family proud of him and to gain the affection of their stern patriarch.
But can Enzo relate with his character in real life?
“Ako, yes, definitely, especially when it comes to my family and I’m doing everything para maging proud ‘yong pamilya ko sa akin. So in that aspect, nakaka-relate ako,” he proudly stated.
Meanwhile, when it comes to the preparations he did, Enzo said that it was extra challenging, especially that it’s his first to work with premier and prolific director FM Reyes.
“Siguro I had to forget everything I know in acting and to start a clean slate and to work with our director who is Direk FM Reyes, who is one of the best directors here in our country. It was challenging in a different [way]. It’s a system e. Iba ‘yong sistema ni Direk FM Reyes so I have to adjust kung ano mang path ang gusto niya for my character. Mahirap siya isipin [because] I have to reinvent myself for this soap. So kumbaga, I have to start in a clean slate,” he disclosed.
Since this is a new role and project for him, we quizzed him as well regarding the dissimilarity of James from the previous characters he personified and of Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit from the past dramas he starred in.
“For this one, itong character ko kasi laging inaapi. I’m not saying na 'di ako nakakakuha ng role na 'di inaapi, pero for this, iba talaga ‘yong pagtrato sa akin ng tatay ko for this show. So despite my height and physicality, kailangan i-transform ko ang sarili ko into somebody na nakakaawa para kumapit 'yung audience,” he imparted.
He then added, “Ito, ibang-iba talaga kasi centered siya sa bata – kay Sophia Reola. So I think it’s been a while bago magkaroon ang ABS ng show na may bata recently. So ito ang pagbabalik ng mga teleserye na bata ang bida. So it’s definitely different, for the aspect na may kids involved."
Brace yourselves to fall in love deeper with Enzo Pineda as he and the rest of the stellar cast of Nang Ngumiti Ang Langit is about to take over our mornings beginning March 25, before It’s Showtime!
