Kapamilya Spotlight Tony Labrusca

Two years after his last acting stint, Tony Labrusca is making a significant comeback via the much-awaited ABS-CBN and TV5 collaborative project Nag-aapoy Na Damdamin, which is set to premiere this coming July 25.

As we look forward on seeing him again on television, let’s revisit his past teleserye portrayals that indeed prove how deserving he is of his spot in showbiz in this Kapamilya Spotlight feature.

Those who are able to follow his career would know that he started out as a commercial model, with his gig as the heartbreak guy in the series of commercials of a famous fast-food chain alongside Elisse Joson, being the most popular.

His ticket to stardom was by joining the reality singing competition Pinoy Boyband Superstar in 2016, through which he made the girls and girls-at-heart swoon not just by his captivating visuals, but with his impressive singing talent as well as he performed his rendition of Lifehouse’s “You And Me”. Besides, he got everyone thrilled, too, when he gave a sample of his gymnastic skills and a promised to be the sweetest boy they would ever meet. That was also in that moment when he had the first-ever chance to share the stage with his mom, singer Angel Jones, and his estranged biological dad, actor Boom Labrusca.

He might not be fortunate enough to make it until the end of the competition and be part of the band, but the universe apparently has other plans for him. He had his first acting project under ABS-CBN through the 2017 fantasy-drama series La Luna Sangre, wherein he impressed viewers with his portrayal of Jake Arguelles, the third wheel in the love story of main characters Malia and Tristan, played by Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

It was succeeded by relatively mature role in the 2019 series Sino Ang May Sala? Mea Culpa, portraying the role of Drei Montelibano, a lawyer-turned-politician and a loving husband who agreed to his wife Juris’ (Bela Padilla) decision to adopt and hide the abandoned child they found during the fateful incident they encountered in Baguio City.

On that same year, he also got to exhibit his acting prowess in the weekly drama anthology Ipaglaban Mo through its “Saltik” episode, riveting us with his depiction of an obsessed admirer named Jerome.

In 2020, Tony had a special appearance in the weekly series 24/7 as the adult Xavier Agbayani, the beloved son of Julia Montes’ character Mia Agbayani.

Amid the community quarantine during the pandemic, he was able to take part in the coming-of-age series Bagong Umaga, playing the role of Raphael “Ely” Florentino/Ponce.

Aside from these television series, the hunk heartthrob also starred in the iWantTFC original series “I Am U” (2020) and “Click, Like, Share” episode titled “Altered,” as well as in the boys’ love digital series “Hello, Stranger” produced by Black Sheep in 2020.

And this year, he’s about to astound us in another sure-fire performance in the upcoming series Nag-aapoy Na Damdamin, in which he’ll portray one of the lead characters Lucas Buencamino.

Directed by FM Reyes and Benedict Mique, Nag-aapoy Na Damdamin is produced by JRB Creative Production and is one of the first collaborations between ABS-CBN and TV5. It will air on weekdays at 3:50PM beginning on July 25 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z and TV5.
