From swooning us with his singing voice and stirring us with his dramatic performances in his three decades in the local entertainment scene, Piolo Pascual is currently winning our hearts as a comedic actor in the weekly “sweet-com” My Papa Pi, wherein he plays the titular role Pipoy.
But unlike his character who has a teenage daughter, the country’s “Ultimate Heartthrob,” as we all know in real life, already has a grown-up son – Iñigo Pascual, who’s now 24 years old. With his handsome and youthful appearance, it’s arguably hard to believe it, right?
Although Piolo never hid nor lied about him, as he actually used to bring him on the set of the projects he did in the early 2000s according to Iñigo, it was only in the 2010s when the young Pascual was finally introduced to the public by following his dad’s footstep’s in show business.
In his interview for Jeepney TV’s “Showbiz Pa More” a couple of years ago, Iñigo recalled some of the fondest and most memorable moments he shared with his parents, especially with his dad. He told host DJ Jhai Ho that due to his dad’s hectic work schedule when he was still a kid, they only got to bond during his free time on weekends. While this is pretty common among dads, what he found weird about his dad was how people around them would react whenever they saw him.
As his parents were able to explain to him the situation, he’s able to understand almost everything at an early age, and at the same time, even dreamt of becoming like his dad when he grows up. His interest in showbiz got enkindled, but his dad discouraged him by telling him, that “this is not life that you would want. It’s hard”, which got him befuddled as he initially found it awesome to be known by a lot of people. But he later on realized that the trade-off of fame is losing your private life.
Since he used to accompany his dad in his tapings back then, Iñigo had the chance to experience becoming an actor when he was 10 years old. He had his first-ever – technically – cameo in Piolo’s 2007 movie “Paano Kita Iibigin” opposite Regine Velasquez, where he depicted the young version of his dad’s character in a photograph.
When asked to describe his dad, Iñigo uttered cool and chill as they consider each other as a barkada. Yet, he always makes sure to tell him if he’s already doing something wrong. Besides, he’s also the one who guides and gives him advice in his decisions, as well as to whom he can turn to and who would never leave his side.
And after his first-ever ASAP number for his dad’s birthday production number, Iñigo finally had his acting debut via the “Diary” episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya and the film “Relaks, It’s Just Pag-ibig” in 2014. When quizzed if Piolo ever gave him pointers or pieces of advice in his acting gigs, he revealed that he actually didn’t.
“In terms of this, he lets me be, he lets me explore on my own. Ayaw niya rin kasi ‘yong masyado niya akong [dinidiktahan] o binibigyan ng instructions. He wants me to be my own identity as well,” Iñigo stated.
In his Magandang Buhay guesting in 2019, the young Pascual shared how fully supportive his father is of his showbiz career, to the point that he visited him in his tapings whenever he’s not busy, brought him coffee and food, and bought food for everyone on the set.
As his dad noticed that he got really busy with his showbiz commitments, Iñigo relayed to the King of Talk during his Tonight With Boy Abunda appearance in 2017 that although Piolo is extremely proud of him, he advised him to slowdown with his career even for a bit.
The seasoned actor also dropped by the show a few days after, wherein he expressed how proud he was of the success of his son’s hit single then, “Dahil Sa ‘Yo”. He told Tito Boy, “Actually, mas overwhelmed pa ako when I found out about it. I’m just really happy because he has found his niche and ito talaga ‘yong gusto niya e.”
And at present, Piolo has something new to be proud about his unico hijo as Iñigo was chosen to play Ace Grayson, one of the lead characters in the American musical drama “Monarch” produced by Fox Entertainment.
As we look forward on seeing the father-and-son tandem of Piolo and Iñigo in one stage (or at least or in one photo) again, let’s look back on their adorable moments together through the years in this gallery!
