A decade after capturing our hearts, May Bukas Pa is officially back on primetime to delight and inspire us anew. This is not only with the cuteness of its lead protagonist Santino, impressively portrayed by then-child star Zaijian Jaranilla, but also to remind us the values that we might have long forgotten and of the unconditional and unending love of God, now that we’re in the midst of a crisis.
Another reason that made the series’ comeback very much timely is that it falls on the season when we commemorate the passion and journey of Jesus Christ and reflect on our lives, too – Lent. As we take a look back on the things we’ve done and ponder on the things that we should do to change our old, horrible ways, go through this gallery to read some of the discerning and stirring takeaways from Santino’s touching conversations with our Almighty Saviour, whom he fondly calls “Bro”.
Just like many of us, it’s “Bro” to whom he runs to not only every time he’s anxious, sad, or in trouble, but whenever he’s blissful, too! He willingly opens up to Him and “Bro” is always willing to give him comforting and sound pieces of advice that Santino enthusiastically relays to the priests and the people around him, which eventually changes their perspective and traits. While he talks to “Bro” casually as if they’re of the same age or peers, we certainly could take a lot of learnings from their amusing yet enlightening exchanges.
We may not have the ability to see and speak with Jesus and heal those who are sick, but it’s still possible for us to help and serve other people in our own simple ways and have a strong relationship with God by conversing to Him through prayers, regardless of our situation.
May these nuggets of wisdom from “Bro” be etched in our minds and hearts, not just this Holy Week, but everyday of our lives, too!
