We love to surround ourselves with a lot of people but the reality is, not all of them make a positive impact on our lives. There are the occasional Debbie Downers and Negative Nancys who find their ways to drain us of our own hope and outlook in life. Magandang Buhay hosts Jolina Magdangal, Karla Estrada and Melai Cantiveros had a chat with Wacky Kiray who opened up about his childhood and shared how he was able to deal with toxic people and stay happy in the face of adversities.
Wacky Kiray always gives us a reason to smile with his witty sense of humor. Before he entered showbiz, Wacky’s a stand-up comedian in several comedy bars for 17 years. He started out in small comedy bars but with his undeniable comic timing, he was able to move to the most famous venues in the country. Wacky Kiray proved that he’s one of the funniest stand-up comedians in the country that have successfully crossed over from comedy bars to television.
He has appeared in a number of TV shows and films and was declared the grand winner in the 2017 talent competition I Can Do That. He’s also one of the Singvestigators in I Can See Your Voice.
But his journey was never always an easy one as he too had experienced stumbling blocks in life. Growing up, it was difficult for him to live with his strict father who wasn’t supportive of his sexuality. The Kapamilya star recalled that he lived his life with such limited means. Dealing with his peers was also a hurdle because he became an easy target of being bullied because of his sexual orientation, especially when his older brother wasn’t around to protect him. There came a time when he got so fed up that he fought back out of anger. “Nagalit ako talaga. Talagang napikon ako,” he explained.
He also recounted on the days when he wouldn’t be invited to the neighborhood parties because they were poor. When the celebrations were over, he would sneak in and gobble down a plate of the left over spaghetti.
Wacky Kiray also talked about the time when he had a rift with his father. Although through the years, Wacky Kiray and his father’s relationship began to improve. He shared that his popshie even apologized to him during his birthday concert and expressed how proud he is of the person that he has become.
