As we all know Independence Day is relevant because it is one of the milestones in Philippine history. But apart from remembering this day, it’s times like these that we stand strong together, hold our heads high, and proudly recognize our nationality and strengths as Filipinos. For today’s episode, Shaina Magdayao, Raymond Bagatsing, Erlinda Lavandia and Pinopela visited the Magandang Buhay hosts Karla Estrada, Melai Cantiveros and Jolina Magdangal and shared how they represented the country and our culture through their profession and artistry.
Award-winning group Pinopela tackled on how their group came to be. Earlier in the show, they gave audiences a show-stopping number, and wowed them with their impressive vocals. Juleit Bahala, Paolo Campos, Rox Omlida, Anthony Castillo, Zsaris Mendioro, JJ Pimpinio are the 6 talented members, who bring this group to life. They shared that some of them have been friends since college and were also music scholars. Juliet met the gang in 2013 in a competition, while someone they knew recommended Zsaris.
The members explained that Pinopela is derived from 2 words, which are Pinoy and Acapella. The said that they chose this because they are proud to be Filipinos. In the past couple of years, without them knowing, they were already doing ‘contemporary acapella’ in random places for the love of the art, until they decided to professionalize it. “Ginagawa na pala namin siya sa bahay o sa banyo, kung saan-saan. More prino-fessionalize na lang naming ‘yung pagdating nung competition,” JJ explained. Establishing a choir was not an option at that time because they didn’t have a lot of members. Pinopela also stressed that as Filipinos, they want to share their message of love through their music, and hope people from different countries are able to feel that. Towards the end, Melai tried her luck and jammed along with the group, but failed to entice anyone, let alone her friends.
