Idol Philippines first runner up Lucas Garcia never in his wildest dreams thought he would make it this far. Lucas shared that auditioned as a backup contender, then finally made it as a legit contestant. However, before making it as an Idol Philippines hopeful, an unforgettable experience had transpired that altered Lucas’s perspective in life. He was paired up with another hopeful Calvin Encomienda who became his roommate. He disclosed to Lucas that he had been diagnosed with Leukemia. Lucas realized right then and there how lucky he was with his current disposition, and that other people have bigger problems to worry about compared to him. He also stressed that he was thankful that he had these realizations and now considers Calvin as his friend for life.
His mother Aida accompanied Lucas in his Magandang Buhay guesting and they spoke fondly of each other. When asked if Lucas ever admitted to her about his sexuality, his mother said that it wasn’t necessary. Mommy Aida always knew about her son’s sexual preference, and it was something that Lucas didn’t have to confirm to her because she already knew. She shared that she has accepted her son for who he is and all his unique idiosyncrasies.
Photos of Lucas were also flashed on screen, showcasing how polished and elegant he looked then dressed as a woman because his momshie would buy him make up.
On a more serious note, Aida emphasized how much she values her children. When her husband left her, Lucas became the breadwinner of the family. She recounted the days when everything that he earned from singing contests would go directly to their family.
Unlike before when he and his father completely lost touch, Lucas revealed that his popshie makes more of an effort now to communicate with him and was even present during his stint in Idol Philippines.
Lucas also shared what he wishes to give more to his mother and said, “Wala po akong pangarap kundi bigyan siya ng sarap at ginhawa, simula noon pa hanggang dulo. Gusto kong bigyan siya nang ginhawa talaga at sarap ng buhay,” he said lovingly.
