The sun’s out! And our Magandang Buhay hosts are still exploring the beautiful shores of Boracay. Indeed, Boracay is a meaningful place in their lives, where they shared a lot of unforgettable memories and good times. Now our favorite momshies are off to create more of them as they continue to take on other fun experiences on this beautiful island in celebration of the morning show’s 3rd anniversary.
The momshies, along with Kaladkaren, Jhai Ho and Jordan tried their luck in paddle boarding. The team was really looking forward to this sport, however it wasn’t as easy as they thought it would be, because a few of them had a hard time and struggled to stand on the paddle board. “Ang hirap pala niyang ibalanse. Malakas ang takbo ng current,” Kaladkaren explained. Jolina had to adjust her position while paddling the board and said, “Sobra siyang nakakapagod. Pero iniisip ko na lang at least nakapag-work out ako”. In the end, most of them were seen sitting on their boards, but little Jordan was the only trooper who was able to stand on it. Despite being a bit burned out, they all thought that it was a good bonding experience.
After their first activity, the gang decided to again explore the marine life underwater and go snorkeling. As they swam deeper into the water, they were able to look at the different sea creatures and corals. All of them were in awe with what they discovered, and even came across a sea snake but they did not panic. Some of them even lauded Jolina, because they noticed that she is a lot braver compared to before. “Maganda ang nature, maganda ang coral reefs. At nakaka-proud dahil si momshie Jols go nang go siya,” Melai stressed.
To satisfy their cravings, Jolina, Melai and Karla met with Chef Gilbert Ramos from Cha Cha Beach Café, who taught them how to make Ube Champorado. This delectable dish consists of Sticky Rice, Sugar, Condensed Milk, and Ube Halaya. To cook this, you just have to allow all ingredients to settle in and boil in the pot for 10-15 minutes, then mix it thoroughly. Take note to add water once in a while too, so that the dish won’t dry up. Yes, it’s that simple! The girls couldn’t wait to try the finished product, and once they did, they were very pleased with the outcome. “Hmmm… ang sarap!,” Melai exclaimed happily while gulping down a handful of Ube Champorado.
While the momshies were busy learning new recipes, Kaladkaren and Jordan went for a little stroll around and wanted a taste of the best-selling taco ice cream. “Napakasarap ng inyong dessert. Ngayon lang ako nakatikim ng taco ice cream!” Kaladkaren disclosed. According to Krizia Ann Loyang, President and CEO of Dessert Zone, she came up with the idea due to the fact that Filipinos love to eat Mexican food. Customers can also choose what ingredients to put in the taco ice cream, hence making it more colorful and yummier.
Jhai Ho and Jordan headed for a little food tasting of their own, and went to another restaurant called Jonah’s. In this particular place, they specialize in making fruits shake and just like in Dessert Zone, everyone is allowed to choose their own ingredients. The two were so excited to try the refreshing drinks, that they ordered 3 flavors which were the Coconut, Mango-Banana and Mango-Melon. When the drinks were served, Jordan grabbed it all and teased Jhai Ho, “Sa akin lahat!”
Another dish Chef Gilbert cooked for Karla, Melai and Jolina was the popular Filipino dish Bicol Express. But this time chef put a little twist in it, and decided to cook it with seafood. Karla was so excited with the dish that she volunteered to cook it herself, since she considers cooking her niche. The native recipe is made out of Kasag, Tulia, Tahong, Shrimps, Ginger, Scallops, Onions, Gata, Sili, Tanglad, Achuete and Patis. To cook, place the atsuete in the pot followed by the Ginger, Onion then stir fry. Second, place the crablets, tahong, tulia, scallops and shrimps in the pot and continue frying. Lastly, pour in the seafood stock and the gata; mix all the ingredients well and spice it up with sili. Once they brought out the finished product, the hungry momshies loved the mouth-watering dish. “Wow the best!” Karla said clapping.
The Magandang Buhay hosts along with Jordan, headed to Puka Beach riding an E-trike, and went around the area and did what any girl enjoys doing, which is shopping! There were so many things to choose from, and the momshies ended up buying cute little accessories and shells that matched their outfits. They were joined by Kaladkaren and Jhai Ho and they had their hair braided. Each picked colorful ribbons and others chose long hair extensions, which made them feel the tropical vibes even more. Melai also started to channel her inner Moana and did a Dalagang Pilipina pose, while showing off her new hairdo. While they were having their hair braided, Karla urged tourists to have their hair braided as well, because it helps boost the businesses of the locals and vendors.
For some relaxation time, the momshies opted to go to a Spa for some pampering time. It was a very peaceful place where they enjoyed the Shell Massage, in which all-natural seaweed body masks and large eco-friendly seashells were utilized in scrubbing their bodies. Nanette Calvert, owner of the Tirta Spa, assured that Shell Massages like these are safe especially for mothers. Although Karla advised mothers not to wet their bodies with cold water after a long day of working. Jolina also reminded momshies to take a break from time to time, and focus on themselves. “Kaya mga momshies kelangan din nating mag-relax. Hindi pwedeng work, work, work. Dahil kailang natin ng me time”.
As the sun began to set, the momshies went Paraw Sailing, an excursion that gave them a chance to bond and talk about everything they’ve been through. For Melai, the most unforgettable episode would have to be when they all visited their hometowns, because she said that it was a chance for them to get to know each other better while Jolina revealed that hers who have to be the episode where they tackled depression. Karla on the other hand, chose the time when they discussed parents adopting their children. “Sana one day kung gusto nating mag-adopt, mag-adopt na lang. At sana matanggal na talaga ‘yung stigma na matawag na ampon lang.”
While sailing and watching the sunset, Melai shared that she learned so much from Karla on being a strong and independent single mother; while she learned how to be more professional at work because of Jolina. Speaking of Jolina, the former teen idol disclosed that it is because of Karla she learned how to stand up for people, and with Melai, she learned how one should stick to what he or she wants to pursue. Lastly, Karla agreed with Melai that being with Jolina reminds them to be more professional, and not to mention to be a hands-on mother.
They say unforgettable moments are best experienceed with friends and loved ones, which is absolutely true. Needless to say, that Karla, Jolina and Melai are lucky to have each other. Keep growing strong momshies, many more years to come!
