It’s that time of the year again when we celebrate and remember the contributions that our fathers have given in our lives. We all know that the father’s role in the family is vital, but it goes beyond the task of being the sole breadwinner. Apart from setting the foundations in the family, he helps his wife mold the children physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Today Magandang Buhay hosts Karla Estrada, Melai Cantiveros and Jolina Magdangal are joined by Senator Kiko Pangilinan and Dingdong Avanzado, to tackle on how life is being a parent to their daughters.
Senator Kiko Pangilinan has manifested his tenacity through years of public service, hard work and dedication. But apart from being a politician, Kiko is also known to be a loving and devoted father to his children. When asked by the MB hosts how it really feels being a father, the Senator replied frankly, “Hindi biro. Masarap na mahirap. Wala kasing eskwelahan na nagtuturo paano maging mabuting ama. So you have you learn it as you go along. Trial and error.” he elaborated. Now that his daughters have matured, Kiko revealed that he can’t believe that time flew so fast. Kiko admitted that there are times when he misses his children. Because according to him, unlike before when they would hang out with him more, it’s just his younger son who would often visit him and his wife, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, in their room.
When asked what he thought about his daughter’s bikini post on social media, the lawmaker replied, “She’s already 18. But just be careful of what you post, because sabi nila once it’s up there it will always be there”. On the other hand, Kiko urged parents to always invest time and love to their children. “Parang ‘yung relationship ninyo para sa isa’t isa parang bangko. Dapat palagi kang nagde-deposit ng oras at ng panahon para pwede kang mag-withdraw ng disiplina at paggagabay,” he elaborated.
His daughters Miel and Frankie revealed that they rarely see their dad crying. But Frankie shared that on her graduation day, Senator Kiko turned emotional. “Nakita ko siya na may handkerchief. Nagulat ako!” Frankie recalled. They also described Kiko as their pillar of strength. “He wants us to see him as always strong, someone we can lean on, and rely on,” Miel said.
Senator Kiko was in for a surprise when Frankie and Miel sang “Mr DJ,” their mother’s hit song and dedicated it to their loving father.
