The 90s are so back! The resurgence of that era has made people from different generations, including teens nowadays, excited over its trends, styles and influences. Millennials and Generation X kiddos are in for treat as the Magandang Buhay hosts Melai Cantiveros, Karla Estrada and Jolina Magdangal welcome Joko Diaz and Keempee de Leon, who were influential actors in their early days in showbiz. They also got to share another part of their life, which is being loving popshies to their families, especially to their daughters.
Joko Diaz made a name for himself in the entertainment industry in the 1980s, but is still active and is currently portraying the role of Hector Mangubat in the hit afternoon series Kadenang Ginto. Audiences have come to love this dramatic soap so much and that a loveteam between he and his co-star Dimples Romana called #DaHec, is now a trending topic. He underscored that the pairing started off as a joke of one of the staff members on the show, that began to develop in time because he and Dimples are really good friends. “Nae-enjoy namin dahil masaya kami sa set eh. So napapaglaruan namin ang lahat ng bagay-bagay sa shoot,” he said.
The talented actor remembered his father, the late Paquito Diaz, and described how life was like with him. “Palagi akong alalay. Ako ang batikang alalay ng tatay ko,” he said fondly. He narrated that he would always carry his father’s things while accompanying him in his tapings. Joko said that because of his father’s profession, he would befriend the staff and the crew on the set. He also recalled the time when his father was so happy for him when he won as Best Child Actor for the movie “Boy Negro.” Paquito was so thrilled by just his son’s nomination, and couldn’t contain himself during the event because of his excitement.
On this episode, Dimples appeared onscreen via a VTR, and gave a heartfelt message to Joko. The actress described him as a gentleman. According to her, having him on the show is such a wonderful experience for everyone because of his positive persona. “Nakakatuwa to have someone like him sa set. Pampagaan sa amin and always joking around,” Dimples exclaimed.
Joko’s daughter Ashley joined him on set and talked to the three momshies about how her father is really like. She did admit that he does have the tendency to get clingy and would check on her from time to time. Ashley underscored though, that unlike her father’s kontrabida roles, her dad isn’t anything like that at all. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Ashley wowed audiences when she performed her own rendition of “You Are My Sunshine”.
Joko couldn’t help but turn emotional when he recalled the time when he was short of cash and his daughter handed him some. The actor shared how he truly felt and said, “Hindi natin alam kung hanggang kailan tayo dito sa buhay natin. So kung ano ang mabibigay ko sa kanila, ibibigay ko na. Para ‘pag nawala ako, okay sila,” he stated firmly and teary-eyed.
The loving daughter said that in the future, she wants to always look after her parents and take care of them. Ashley gave a sweet message to her dad, hoping that he would always stay safe and said that she is proud of him. “I am very proud that you are my father. I want more bonding moments with you. I love you”, she said tenderly. While Joko replied by saying that he is hoping for the best for her, which includes finishing her studies. He also reminded her to always show respect to people. The Kapamilya star finished by saying, “’Wag mong malilimutan na lumingon sa pinangalingan mo para makarating ka sa pupuntahan mo,” Joko advised his daughter.
