Baron Giesler was always known to be one of the most brilliant, and not to mention talented, actors of his generation. However, it is no secret that Baron’s life has had its ups and downs over the years. Baron admitted that there was a time when he was spoiled by everyone, and did not make the most out of all the blessings and opportunities that were handed to him. He revealed that he was struggling with his identity, felt lost, didn’t pray and was distracted and overwhelmed by all of the beautiful women around him. Because of everything that was happening, particularly with his father’s passing, Baron slid into a very depressive stage and even contemplated on taking his own life, “Noong namatay si Dad, gusto ko siyang samahan sa libingan. I almost took my life.”
Baron continued to struggle with his addiction, but said that he just kept falling into the same habit, “Ilang beses na akong napasok sa iba’t ibang institution. Nag-drugs ako nang todo. At nagsinungaling ako, sinungaling akong tao nung time na ‘yun.” He was in denial about his condition, and never really wanted to ask help from anyone. But then he decided to make a change and go to rehab.
The FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano villain recalled when he was about to go to rehab, he felt that his mother wanted to utter something to him, “Hindi ko alam hanggang ngayon kung anong gusto niyang sabihin. Binigyan ko na lang ng meaning na, before I (his mother) die, please take care of yourself because I’m not here anymore.” He described his mother as his saving grace and was always there for him when he needed her, however she had her own health issues that she was struggling with, and she unfortunately passed away. “Siya ‘yung Mama Mary ng buhay ko,” he said emotionally.
Donald, Baron’s brother, joined them on the set and shared the most difficult times that they both had to face when Baron was not in at a good point in his life. “The pinaka-worst one was nung nasa Cubao siya sa taas ng gutter. Hinarang niya ‘yung mga bus na parating,” Donald narrated. Donald just urged Baron to take a taxi; and told him that he will just take care of the mess he made. Baron apologized to his brother for putting him through so much and thanked for being patient with him. “I’m sorry, bro. I never listened. I love you very much, man. And thank you for supporting me all throughout,” Baron said crying. Donald accepted his apology and even lauded Baron for the person that he has become. “I am proud of him. There are times na I want to bother him, pero alam ko na sobrang busy siya and I respect his busy time,” Donald elaborated. Donald continued by saying that he’s glad that Baron has pursued his passion of being an actor, because it’s what he had always wanted for him.
Things have now turned for the best for the Tabing Ilog alumnus as he continues to be blessed with TV projects and other business opportunities. Apart from work, Baron is also looking forward to marrying his girlfriend Jamie Marie Evangelista and stressed that he is a very lucky man. He continues to take things day by day, and he stressed that in life it is not just your talent that one should rely on, “It’s 10% talent and 90% attitude,” Baron also had a piece of advice for those who are struggling with life, “It’s all about accepting that you have a problem. Second, ask God right away for help. Thirdly, ask people for help because nobody can do it alone.”
Baron went on to add, “Gaya ng sinabi ko kay Coco Martin at sa lahat, hindi ako mangangako. I’ll just do it kasi itong nangyari sa akin, you take it one day at a time. It’s a conscious effort, conscious decision to fight for your life, for your sobriety, for your mental health daily. It’s not a joke.”
